Continuity is important going into this offseason. It would be taking another step back firing McDermott and making the players learn a new system. Just give him another chance with healthy players and some new tools to work with. The defense has to be better next year, because they really can't get any worse.

his defense finished 6th on football outsiders in 2009, though they pretty much had no answer for the cowboys that year

they also made enough plays against Rodgers (tough feat for any d) last year in the wildcard playoffs for Vick to drive down the field, and threaten to score after the 2 minute warning

the personnel just wasn't there to compete this year, it barely was before the injuries to Beason, Davis, and Edwards happened.
