Newton wants to do for the Panthers and for quarterbacks what Suh did for defensive tackles, what Deion Sanders did for cornerbacks and Devin Hester did for kick returners: He wants to make them feared again; he wants to make them scary good.

"You know how kids create custom players on video games?" Newton says. "How you can make a guy 7 feet and 340 pounds and fast enough to run a 4.2? I want to be that kind of juggernaut type of player."

bordering on disrespectful (but kind of truthful as well) to JR, charlotte, and the franchise, but still a good read.

i thought this was interesting...apparently JR talked to cam about suh to get his take on him and cam applauded suh.

Instead of taking the company line on Suh, the real Cam Newton defended him to his boss. Well, no. Wait. That's not quite right. Newton says he didn't just defend Suh to his Vince Lombardi-white socks-and-black shoes boss, Newton applauded Suh. Said he had the utmost respect for him. Then, the rook looked Richardson right in the eye and told him that the Panthers needed more players just like him.

Lots more.

"I've played against Suh and he's not dirty -- he just wants to dominate his opponent, and that's just how it has to be on the football field," Newton says. "If you took a survey across the league if people wanted Ndamukong Suh on their team, I guarantee it would be unanimous across the league that he would be an excellent teammate and a person you can count on. I know he's gonna give his all, are you? Suh puts pressure on everybody else. His level of play makes everybody else get on his level. You gonna be a part of that? I say, 'Look at that, that ain't how we play.'"

It's fiery stuff, but considering how much Big Cat has already mentioned that he loves Cam's hatred of losing, and that Cam would be the last QB they draft high in his lifetime, I don't see it being an issue.

His teammates razz him on it a bit, but he takes it in stride and I'm sure he's beginning to learn how to gauge their frustrations with losing.

It's all a learning process, but if there's one thing we've seen, it's that Cam's one hell of a quick learner.

What I see about Cam is that he's confident but not unrealistically about it. He admires those who have achieved and strive to be like them. He doesn't seem to depend on his team making him look good, he set out to do all he can to make his team look good.

I followed this kid's career down to NC to see if you guys would experience and see what Auburn and Blinn saw in Cam. It's clear you have.

I pray that the more he grows and matures as a QB and a person the more folks will have to eat their own words against him. And, the more he will make you Panther fans smile.

didn't JR himself say the Panthers needed more Shockey's on the team? there is no issue because that's an asbolutely factual statement.. we need more attitude, desire to win..

we should be done with mediocrity... we had success early on with Fox, but Fox is meek. He isn't a shark. Playing not to lose is about the most pathetic thing a competitive person could ever do..

I don't understand how you can have testosterone flowing through your veins and not want to step on your opponents throat.. Fox is coaching as a guy who wants a job, play not to lose, you'll win .500 of those games.. you get a paycheck...

obviously I'm exaggerating a bit.. but the point still should be made..

I'm not sure I'd call it close to disrespectful - blunt maybe but he's not saying anything we haven't all been saying for years. This team has lacked a killer instinct and real desire for a long time. Do I agree with Suh stomping people and trying to pull their heads off? No, I don't, but I do see the point.

We've had individuals on this team before who had that kind of killer instinct but never as a team. If Cam can come in here at a leadership position like QB and be charismatic enough wake up the players who already had that sort of dominate-them-into-submission mentality to usher that in as the overall tone of the locker room it's one more benefit to having picked him up.

I would like us to get a bit of an edge and with every passing interview it sounds like this QB is going to make it his mission to make that happen. Good for him.

What many of you don't see is that Sitting behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, The Papers, The Laptop, Blinn College, & The Bribe, were the best things that could happen to this kid.

All of that scrutiny, that suffering has made him into the man we see today. Cam has seen so much criticism, he could probably "Legally" defend Jerry Sandusky and come out clean on the other side.

This criticism even from Carolina Huddle supporters drives him every day to wake up and prove all of the doubters wrong. So just like The Golden Calf of Bristol says, "Thanks!"

Expect many wins next year, he still has plenty of bullets in the chamber.
