The answer is totally dependant on the scenario. If we are talking about the next 5 years only without any thought to the years after its gotta be Brees. I love cam as much as anyone but brees over the next 5 is almost a sure playoffs 5 times. Even as he declines he just goes from elite to an above average QB.

As soon as you start considering anything longer its Cam. With Breez over 5 you probably make more playoffs better SB run but then its over. With Cam, playoffs SB are still possible but after 5 years hes just settling in

I'm not sold on the idea that Brees will retain his ability to carry the team through the next 5 years. I say carry, because he has been the key to success for them. Without his production and leadership, they don't have much to fall back on....I can't even name their back-up...I think their playoff performance will say a lot about the entire team this year, last year was a poor showing....we'll see.

No one knows if Cam could decline the next two years, it happened to Freeman, who many pre draft compared Cam to.

At their current levels, Cam is nowhere close to Breesus.

I wouldnt say all that, we have seen Cam make "Breesus" type throws this year and who knows how much better he will be after he goes through the off season. Also, your forgetting about Cams ability to run too, at the end of the day there are somethings Cam can do that Brees cant that will make him even more elite. Brees didnt even start playing at this level until NO superbowl run anyway. Cam is already shown flashes next to Brees in his rookie season.

Cam waaaaaay exceeded everybody's expectations in his rookie season and setting records, so why should we think he wont comeback next year playing up there with Rodgers and Brees or pretty close to it??? Not saying im drinking to much Kool aid but i would not be surprised. Cam has so much potential its insane, so im not setting the bar on what i think he is gonna do anymore.

Beside the fact that Cam is an accending player and Brees is level going on descending, Cam will make app. $30 million over the next four years and Brees will probably be in the $80 million range. That gives us a $50 million advantage to sign additional higher level players.

The better way to ask the question is who would you take for the rest of their career. That would clear it all up. One thing about cam is that superbowl or not, cam is exciting to watch. It's kinda like watching a great movie that you cant turn away from because you have to see what is gonna come next (the dark knight for me). Oh, and as far as DB's ints go, its not because he isnt accurate. It's because he will try to throw a ball through a keyhole. It goes exactly where he wants it to go. He just tries to throw it places he shouldnt.

Cam - his game goes beyond just the passing aspect, and he's younger, so there's more room for him to grow and be better than he already is.

Brees could win a Super Bowl so I'd take him. Newton is good but honestly the Panthers only beat poor teams this year (even the Texans lost to the worst team in the league after facing the Panthers).

Also Newton has blown many leads and has yet to show he can win competitive close games (playoffs, meaningful games to get into the playoffs). Not say he can't do these things, but I haven't seen him do it yet. If Kasay was still our FG kicker and some linebackers were healthy, we might have these answers by now.

Newton is an unknown and if I'm building a team I'm taking the sure thing in Brees.

Good answer to the question about who is the better quarterback right now and who would you want in 2011. But the question is who would be better to build a team around for the future. Brees is a lot less likely to be in the league in five years compared to Newton. Brees also has a lower ceiling. In a year or two Newton is likely to be able to do what Brees can do right now. There are things Newton can do right now that Brees will never be able to do.

Newton is hardly an unknown. He will have thrown for 4000 yards and has the rookie record for most passing yards held by Manning. At this point in his career he is ahead of any rookie quaarterback ever. I guess once a hater, always a hater.
