in building a team for the future i'm going to go with the guy that's got the most future in the league, esp. when you have that dynamic skill set and ability to perform that newton has.

to me, the way the league is shaping up defenses are going to require your QB to be incredibly mobile in the next few years. you don't go with a guy that is on the wrong side of 30 in that situation.

brees is good right now and one of the best in the league, but he won't be that way for long. cam is the future.

Good point...I've heard plenty of talk about how pro football has become dependent on the passing game and has moved away from the running game/ball control model. Couple that with rules that help the receiver and QB and you have the game today.

Fact is, the game is constantly evolving and is coming around to deal with the pass-heavy strategy being utilized by successful teams. That's for the defensive minds to deal with. I see Carolina's utilization of Cam and our offense in general as breaking away from the status quo and moving the target that defenses are trying to deal with. This is cutting edge stuff and it's exciting to watch it develop.

For whatever reason for whatever season. Cam

Cam is a quick fix. He brings instant change and immediate swag. Brees got run off by SD and Miami when he became a free agent and didn't want him.

Wiki Info

San Diego Chargers

2001 NFL Draft

Brees' college success led to projections that he would be a mid-to-late first round draft pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, but he slipped due to concerns about his relatively short stature for a professional quarterback (6'0"), a perceived lack of arm strength, and a sense that he had succeeded in college in a system designed for him. Ultimately, Brees was the second quarterback selected in the 2001 draft, chosen by the San Diego Chargers as the first pick of the second round.[8]

San Diego originally had the first pick in that draft, but traded it to Atlanta (which used it to draft Michael Vick) in return for the fifth pick of the first round, with which San Diego drafted LaDainian Tomlinson.[8]

Early career

Brees played in his first professional game on November 4, 2001 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He won the starting job over Doug Flutie during training camp before the start of the 2002 season. Brees started all 16 games for the Chargers during the 2002 season, leading the team to an 8-8 record. After a disappointing start to the 2003 season he was replaced by Flutie.

Brees' career with the Chargers was put in jeopardy after San Diego acquired NC State's Philip Rivers. After the trade, it was almost certain Brees' days as the Chargers' starting QB were over

Brees could win a Super Bowl so I'd take him. Newton is good but honestly the Panthers only beat poor teams this year (even the Texans lost to the worst team in the league after facing the Panthers).

Also Newton has blown many leads and has yet to show he can win competitive close games (playoffs, meaningful games to get into the playoffs). Not say he can't do these things, but I haven't seen him do it yet. If Kasay was still our FG kicker and some linebackers were healthy, we might have these answers by now.

Newton is an unknown and if I'm building a team I'm taking the sure thing in Brees.

The better way to ask the question is who would you take for the rest of their career. That would clear it all up. One thing about cam is that superbowl or not, cam is exciting to watch. It's kinda like watching a great movie that you cant turn away from because you have to see what is gonna come next (the dark knight for me). Oh, and as far as DB's ints go, its not because he isnt accurate. It's because he will try to throw a ball through a keyhole. It goes exactly where he wants it to go. He just tries to throw it places he shouldnt.

The answer is totally dependant on the scenario. If we are talking about the next 5 years only without any thought to the years after its gotta be Brees. I love cam as much as anyone but brees over the next 5 is almost a sure playoffs 5 times. Even as he declines he just goes from elite to an above average QB.

As soon as you start considering anything longer its Cam. With Breez over 5 you probably make more playoffs better SB run but then its over. With Cam, playoffs SB are still possible but after 5 years hes just settling in
