We just don't need a wide reciever...AT ALL!!! LaFell had over 500 yards and 3 touchdowns this year. Legedu is starting to come into his own with a 500 yard season. Gettis is returning and we also have two really young guys in Pilares and Armanti. We need to quit giving up on players so early that have shown promise (i.e. LaFell and Gettis). Why not worry about other positions like the offensive line, defensive line, linebacking corp, and secondary...

We need to spend more time upgrading our defense then worrying about someone that would be our 4th option on offense. If he wanted to come in for cheap and laid low I wouldn't mind it, but I don't see it happening.

Agreed. Though to play devil's advocate, you can stick with a wide receiver for too long. See Jarrett, Dwayne.

(No, I'm not likening any of our current receivers to Jarrett -- I think they've all shown far more promise than he ever did.)

receiver is the last thing on our list of needs behind QB, Center, and RB...

I realize John Fox failed to ever find an appropriate wideout opposite of Smitty every year Moose wasn't here, but thankfully Hurney took over after trying to save Fox's job.... and drafted LaFell, Gettis, Pilares and brought FA Naanee here.... as well as some REAL TE's in Olsen and Shockey, with Barnidge (underutilized by Fox, as expected) showing some solid potential..

receiving threats on top of Stew and DWill is not our biggest need... not close.

I see why some people want another reciever because they want Cam to have more options or they want another dynamic player on offense. However, adding another wide out puts us in the same boat we are already in, we will have the ability to score but no ability to stop our opponent from scoring.

Let me be clear.

I don't advocate adding a receiver and keeping every one that we have nor do I advocate spending a high draft pick on a receiver. Most everyone has acknowledged that we have clear needs that are more pressing than receiver but replacing one with a better option through FA without breaking the bank does nothing to hamper our ability to add to the defensive side of the ball while likely making our offense that much better. I am simply not sold on any of our receivers past LaFell / Smith and it would not hurt my feelings to see someone lower on the chart replaced.

We're not in a "upgrade WR or upgrade x-position on defense....but you can't do both" situation here.

I understand why some would want to draft a WR. If Smith gets hurt next year then that's still taking a big chance with who we currently have. I love LaFell and I think he will be a great WR but I don't how big of a leap we can expect him to make next season. Same with Gettis and he's coming back from surgery. We need to get Pilares and Armanti some damn reps. Naane is not the future of this team.

Armanti hasn't shown anything to suggest that he's the future of this team either. Pilares might blossom into something but I wouldn't invest too much time hoping for an AE revival.

Naanee is more of a future to this team than AE and Pilares. Naanee is where Pilares hopes to be one day. AE hopes to surpass Jarrett one of these days... bright future, I know..

I don't know why everybody hates on Legedu so much. Did he drop a few passes early? Sure he did. Were there some baffling play calls to throw it deep to him on 3rd and 2's? Yup. But the second half of the season the guy has caught everything thrown his way, and has been pretty damn clutch with receptions to move the chains. Plus he knows this offense probably better than anyone else wearing pads. Not to mention he is cheap. I absolutely would love to have him back, even moreso than Gettis. We aren't sure how Gettis will be coming off of surgery, and even if he comes back 100% he'll be in his first year of actually taking snaps in this offense. With Smitty, LaFell and Legatron I don't see WR as being a huge need for us.
