Last prime time game I went to was Panthers vikings in 09 and it was a great atmosphere that night. I think the stadium was full at kickoff too that game.

It was a good atmosphere tonight, panthers games will be like this one day I know it :)

You just explained what I believe to be the issue. A good number of PSL's were marketed to the wine and cheese crowd from UNC, to use for sales/business meetings. Correct me if I'm wrong about that. But that coupled with sub par teams is a recipe for a silent crowd and an empty stadium.
