Do we really need a DT?

What we truly need is an ELITE DE. Hardy is a good player but he'd be significantly better as a rotational guy and having a guy who can generate consistent pressure on the other side of johnson. DE >> LB >>>>>>>>>>> CB imo at least on the defensive side of the ball.

Of all the positions on this team DE has to be near the bottom of the priority list where upgrades are concerned. Frankly there are so many things wrong with DE being at the top of that list you gave I don't know where to start.

I suppose the simplest point to make is that with a DE as good as CJ you don't need a elite pass rusher on the other side - you simply need someone who isn't a scrub who can generate enough pressure when left alone to pull some attention. I think Hardy fits that bill and will only get better with experience.

 DE needs attention about as much as RB does. we are set.

DE hasn't been a problem this year. it is no where near the weak link in this D and it won't do anything to fix the problems we have had.

i could see us drafting coples, but then i'd want him to get beefed up and stick him at DT. beyond that, i just don't want any DE out there, esp. if it means sacrificing talent that is more needed at other positions.

Yes, in the worst kind of way.

Not really saying draft one, but if there is one there at the right slotting, then get him.

This team needs to work from the inside out on both sides of the ball.

We have had better rush D lately because we can put up points, and they have to abandon the run. Think Indy over the last 10 years. In the regular season, lights out. In the post season when you HAVE to stop the run, they were often bounced.

You have to be able to control the trenches.

i wouldnt object to OT and DT with the 1st 2 picks. steelers do this a lot, have to build the trenches.

Using our 1st or 2nd pick on a DT would be a monumental blunder unless there's one there that is somehow lightyears better than the next best player on the board (I don't think there is).

I may not be sold on who we have now as a permenent solution but I can't get behind the idea of it being a position of immediate need over some others (CB? LB?) that I think we're going to be hurt by more.

I would like to see a significant upgrade at OT though.

Outside of Suh, DTs typically struggle in their rookie years. Obviously McLain and Fua showed Rivera enough in practice to get the starting jobs early, maybe that will be built on and they'll show a big improvement next year. I can see the FO taking a shot on another DT in the middle rounds, but given this draft class and our likely position I would be surprised if we actually targeted one.

you dont draft for need, if there is a talent at DT and the value is there you take him. i can see getting Reiff with the 1st and then turning around picking up Poe in the 2nd.

When Rivera made the move for Edwards before the season started, that was the upgrade at DT coupled with the draft moves they made. Rivera spent some time in the AFC West and that's where his info on Edwards came from. Until we see him in this system on the field, how can anyone make a good evaluation of what he brings to our table? The staff now has the benefit of seeing the rookies on the field and we have a couple of new people in here as well. I doubt that they will move to acquire a starting DT in the off-season.
