Why Is Armanti Edwards Still Returning Punts?

What if you have plenty of other chickens that are already matured and producing?

Besides, everyone knows the farm has limited space, so instead of concentrating on a chicken that can't cut it in a unit that has showed promise, we could use that freed up space for some other animals that have struggled, mainly secondary and defensive tackles.

Well chickens get old and die, and some chickens lay more eggs then others so getting a chicken with potential should be cut before it can mature?

And it's a chicken house theres a limited number of chickens allowed in so chickens will only be replaced by other chickens

this isn't madden were you have 1 LT LG RT RG and center and have 3 back-ups for every other position

#1 theres only about 5 punt returners who actually "can make something happen" consistently

#2 the people starting over him have been playing WR there whole football career, He however has not... So with that said why should he not be given time to develop?

If you'll look at the stats, there are more than 5 who fans can be pleased with. There is nothing to be pleased with when it comes to Armanti.

And he's had enough time.

"...I don't blame it on him. It's on Hurney. Hurney drafted the guy to play a position he hadn't played since he dabbled there in HS. That's a big risk move, not a move you trade a future #2 to try. Armanti should've been a late round draft pick that was looked at as a potential move to WR or a wildcat QB." LinvilleGorge

The player decides what position he wants to be drafted as, not the team who drafts him. Armanti Edwards declared and entered the draft as a WR. One of the roles of a WR is punt returning. While I'm not a big Hurney fan, it certainly wasn't on him to make Edwards a WR, Armanti made that decision before being drafted.

"Edwards has a better chance of being on this team next year than Clausen. Now how many could have predicted that."

Wow, really going out on a limb there, eh?

"The first job of any punt returner is to catch the ball. Advancing the ball upfield is purely secondary. He's doing well enough."

Nice to know where the bar is set... just high enough to slide a dime underneath.

"So how fast do you expect an undersized college QB to turn into a WR/PR in the NFL? This is year two and Ive seen worse."

CarolinaKat

Again, the player makes the decision what position he wants to be drafted to play.

If you actually watched the draft you would have seen that Armanti didn't only go in as WR but his main position was QB and he did his draft combine with the QBs but also said he can be drafted at another position also.

it took smitty over 2 years to become a starter, and he did amazing things previous.

Smitty showed things as a returner which let the coaches know he was special. That's how he stuck around. If Armanti showed an ounce of something special, they'd be more willing to let him "wait for his chance". Armanti and Otah... both gone in the off season.

Why are so many of you so protective of this kid?

Steve Smith.....the guy that returned his first touch in the NFL to the house? The guy that was a 2002 Pro Bowl invite based solely on his STs play?

Why would you compare him to Edwards, ever? Armanti has literally done nothing in two years. I could stand back there and do what he does.

Im protective because it's his first year returning and his second year playing as a WR, a position hes never played before and hes shown nothing but positives since hes came in... there isn't any bad things other then WOW HES NOT AS GOOD AS SMITTY OR HE CANT RETURN PUNTS LIKE DEVIN HESTER LETS GET SOMEONE ELSE.

and i watched him play alot of ball at app so im a homer :D

thats the point? it took steve more then 2 YEARS to become a starter and he actually showed amazing things previous AKA before he became a starter

So your point is that Smith was worth his weight in gold to this team as a return man and forced his way into the starting lineup on offence because he stuck around long enough/showed enough flashes of potential that they gave him a chance.

How, exactly, is that comparable to Edwards? He's flashed nothing.
