Official Gameday Thread: Bucs @ Panthers

The Other Colbert

Cam Newton is just 18 yards shy of Peyton Manning’s rookie passing record, but while his passing and rushing skills have surpassed expectations, he still has not mastered the emotional repression required to succeed in the N.F.L. Luckily, the veteran linemen Jordan Gross and Ryan Kalil are giving him lessons in personality suppression. “I have a bad tendency of showing my emotions on my face,” Newton said Wednesday. “I have to change it, and I’m trying to change it. At the quarterback position, you need to stay even-keeled.” Soon, all elements of Newton’s humanity will be airbrushed away, and he will become like the other quarterbots, unwilling and incapable of expressing disappointment or doubt, and only feeling pleasure and pride during the few seconds he is hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Do not worry, Cam: the assimilation is mostly painless, and your personality grows back about a decade after retirement. Pick: Panthers

Carolina Panthers @Panthers 5m

#Panthers Inactives: WR Seyi Ajirotutu, C Jeff Byers, QB Jimmy Clausen, LB Omar Gaither, S Charles Godfrey, K Adi Kunalic & DE Eric Norwood.

Carolina Panthers @Panthers 4m

R.J. Stanford will start at CB in place of Captain Munnerlyn who was placed on IR Friday.

Meh at Stanford.

Bucs will be missing both starting DTs -- Haynesworth and Price are inactive. Roy Miller and Frank Okam will start.

    • Yeah and he succeeded at an even higher level in LA with an even better surrounding cast. Goff is a guy that isn't really able to dramatically elevate players around him but he can make a good situation even better. He is capable of that. Some QB's aren't. I am not sure Dak is able to do that and he is in a similar "class" as Goff, IMO.
    • i think i could handle that for a year. beyond that....i don't know.  back where we lived, when we had a few inches of snow, it might have been a couple feet because we weren't getting out and doing anything. i remember times where power would go out for days on end. we had propane and electric heat, depending on the floor. basement (had a couple bedrooms and a living room and kitchen down there) and main floor had gas logs. main floor gas logs was enough to take care of the upstairs, so we could stay warm and cook on the grill when we needed. we had a well so that was always an issue when the power went out. had to make sure tubs were filled with water for the toilets and we had gallons of water for drinking and cooking available. always had to make sure we were ready. that wasn't always the case. we had a couple moments where we were going through propane quickly and because we were dealing with the worst propane company in the world (amerigas) they wouldn't get out to put gas in our 900 gallon tank. made for some nerve racking moments.  i know y'all were probably a lot more able to handle that kind of thing, but after the little bit (comparatively) that we got here i just have no desire to get trapped again. maybe for a day or two a year get snowed in and i'm good.
    • I think he is just drawing a DC to them line and that's about as far as his thought process went. It makes almost no sense outside of that. Also, it doesn't make sense for Pittsburgh or Seattle at this juncture either.  I think our "veteran" pool is basically gonna be the Dalton/Flacco tier or the "pick your poison" options of young busts(Jones/Z. Wilson) or wild, TO prone gunslingers(Darnold/Winston/etc). We have the option to pursue I genuinely believe(depending on the way the rest of this season goes), we either draft a QB in the top 10 or resign Dalton. Outlier third option on taking one of the wild gunslingers that Dave feels like he can work with.
