Why do some of you think that Ron Edwards...

he's an upgrade.

he's solid against the run.

with the fluke exception of this year the dude has been incredibly durable.

he's got tons of experience.

he's not a stat monster and he's not anyone that would get a lot of hype. he just gets the job done. he always had. he doesn't get pushed around. he makes your run D respectable and he opens things up for LBs.

he's solid, not spectacular. he's not someone whose name you'll hear announced over the speakers. he won't rack up a lot of stats. you'll just notice that people are running less on us down the middle.

honestly, that's enough.

i don't think anyone expects him to come in and save the world. he's a guy that can come in and contribute, adds his own skillset to the team - those are the guys rivera likes. roleplayers.

as others have said, in kansas city he was a major run-stuffer, he was the team's offseason extension priority and he signed with us instead. it was considered a major coup for us, and one of our big free agent signings. i think the fact that he never played a snap with us due to his injury vanquished him almost immediately from the minds of huddlers, so at this point he's almost an afterthought.

if he comes back at full level (and there's no reason to assume he won't) he'll immediately impact our run defense (which is notoriously bad right now.) rotating him in with neblett, mcclain, and fua - and a free agent acquisition if rivera decides to go in that direction - won't be spectacular but it will be solid. and solid is a dramatic improvement.

I think Panthro was the closest to the truth in this thread.

Average NT coming out of a 3-4, that is 32, and is coming off of a season ending injury.

As to the person who said Late 30's is cool with NT's.....that is crazy talk. Late 30's isn't cool at any position on the football team except coaches.

Wishful thinking on most peoples part. He was a servicable guy in KC who always played on bad defenses.

It was known that KC wanted an upgrade at the NT position and while he was ok at NT, he was really out of place in the 3-4.

His best attribute would have been his veteran presence on the defensive line.
