The education of Cam

You can change your name footballisasport, but unless you change your message, you will always be easily recognizable.

And why should I change my message? Because it's not inline with what everyone else thinks and feels?

Cam is told by our media that in order for him to be an elite QB he has to play by their rules. My question is, why is that? Is he not worthy of the same rights as players like Luck and The Golden Calf of Bristol? Why does he need to be taught while their ways are simply accepted?

They applaud you when you see things their way and scorn you when you don't. Sad to see we are still like that.

So instead of acting like a grown man, you resort to mocking me. Really? And I guess that is suppose to do what, offend me?
no. i could care less how you feel, actually. i could care less about your message either.

you just deserve to be mocked because you're a whiny little troll turd,

You should listen to some early interviews of Jordan. He sounded nothing like the calm, regal figure most think of when they think of His Airness.

As for "affluent," I'm sure Cam's excellent sense of style has more to do with his upbringing than anything to do with money.

You are so right...It's quite scary to believe that in this time and day, folks still live behind high walls and judge the rest of the world based solely on what they learn from the media.

Maybe if they got out more and saw the rest of the world, they would embrace a kid like Cam instead of trying to conform him to a one size fit all standard as a QB.

I have never seen a young person scrutinized and rip apart like I have with this kid. And what's even more telling is how comfortable some folks are with doing it.

You are having an argument with a complete stranger on the internet over a kid that you don't know personal simply because the person choose to argue against the way in which the kid is being treated by the media and in your mind I'm a troll, okay.

You have a nice evening.

  • The vast majority of the posters here are huge Cam fans, and unlike you, they are also fans of the Panthers. Not the Jets, not the Giants, etc. In other words, you are a visiting reverend preaching to the home choir.
  • You are making yourself look just as ridiculous as the Cam "haters". You just happen to be on the other side of the spectrum. But guess what, Cam is a human being. As such, he has flaws just like you, me, and every other individual on the face of the earth. As fans of Cam and the Panthers, we should be able to discuss these flaws without your constant chirping that any and all criticism is unfair.
  • You harp and harp on media bias. We get it. The media is sometimes biased. Sometimes it is unintentional, sometimes not. However, most of us are smart enough to recognize an agenda when we see it, and don't need you running around this board like a hall monitor in high school.

That's why.

I can tell you something about Cam that many of you don't see. Cam grew up to relative affluent African American Parents being that his father is ex-nfl and a Pastor. Yet as an athlete to be able to communicate and keep his street cred, he has had to straddle a fence, between cool and corporate. I think the misinterpretation between some of Cam's actions, comes from the fact that he dresses like Bill Cosby, in the sweaters one day, and the next day, he's dripping with swag. As QB of a team full of veterans, I bet he is personally trying to walk a fine line between stepping on people's toes, i.e. respecting his elders, and yet at the same time releasing just enough swag to let people know, he will cut you on the field. I would almost bet the Cam we see next year will be a lot more aggressive/assertive with teammates while still maintaining that Cosby sweater polish.

Wait what? What does swag have to do with cutting people?

You forgot the fact that he is in a football forum but doesn't appear like he knows anything about football

Why is there always someone who tries to make every thread turn crappy?

Cam himself has said he has had to learn to trust his teammates...that it is not all on him....in other words...he is learning to be a team player and thus a more effective leader. This is not about hating on him, it is not a racial conspiracy. It is about watching an exceptionally talented young QB...who plays for our team, develop into a likely exceptional NFL QB. A big part of this is that there are quality vets who are helping him probably as someone helped them when they came into the league. The biggest factor is that Cam is willing to learn. He has applied these lessons quickly and we have already seen positive results this season.

Now...how can you make something negative out of that?

You are having an argument with a complete stranger on the internet over a kid that you don't know personal simply because the person choose to argue against the way in which the kid is being treated by the media and in your mind I'm a troll, okay.

You have a nice evening.

you're making a mountain out of a mole hill and you are reading between lines to find messages that just simply aren't there except in your own tiny little head.

it's that simple.

a kid was just complimented on his growth. doesn't matter what color he is. i don't care what color he is. my 4 year old daughter doesn't care what color he is (because in my home i raise my family to believe that people are people regardless of what they look like and deserve to be respected and treated equally).

he's a massively talented young kid who is having to mature in front of us. just like anyone, he has to learn to improve the way he talks to people. how to be more tactful. he also is having to grow into a leader which means that he's going to have to focus his attention on leading others, most of them vets with a whole lot more experience than him and a lot more age. he has to learn to properly motivate others, something that takes years to learn. something that you never stop learning. he has to learn that his demeanor on the sidelines and on the field and the comments he makes outside have an impact and he has to alter that so that he can be effective.

this is all something that is true with any QB on any team regardless of the school they come from, offensive system they are in, or color of their skin. actually that is true for any leader. him being CAM NEWTON aka SUPERMAN doesn't change that.

what's the good news? he's getting it. this thread and those quotes and that article was addressing the fact that people he plays with who have really liked him as a man and who have been respecting him as a player and a really talented individual are now respecting him as a leader because he's growing and he's getting it.

he wasn't going to step right into that role of leader and take over that team. it wasn't going to be given to him. it was going to have to be him adjusting and learning how to be the guy this team needs to help them win games and championships. while he's learning this, some of the seasoned pros are going to have not just expectations, but a very clear idea of what it means to be a pro and what is needed to be effective and when they offer that advice or suggestions, he better damn well listen. why? because he's still just a kid. it's got nothing to do with his skin. it has everything to do with him being young.

you come in here to our teams fan forum and start throwing around all kinds of accusations about how cam is being disrespected because of his color or whatever when the vast majority of people here are just glad to have him as their QB. sure...he's going to have to overcome critics, just like everybody. but he will in time make everyone who doubted what he can do eat their words.

it won't be some guy running his mouth and screaming that the world is a against him. his actions will do more to prove his case than any words could ever do. the only thing that you do is make yourself look like a foolish and tiny little man who is so fixated on one little aspect that you aren't capable of seeing the big picture.

you think that this may mean i'm blind, but i can assure you i'm not. i can, however, assure you that you have blinders on that keep you narrow-minded. for your own benefit i hope someday you can take those blinders off so you can join the human race rather than trying to be an obstinate bump in the road.

crap....did i just send swag to whytogo? i meant to neg rep him for being even more lame than pffl.

copycat troll.

I'm not sure what ur issue is but honestly, I come to this site to simply unwind and enjoy some of the reading and the silly back and forth. I don't come here to start fights nor get caught up in them. As a matter of fact, I was extremely bored with the back and forth with you after my second or third post and I said good night.

You can do whatever makes your heart and ego feel good. I'm still going to be me.:D
