The education of Cam

I can tell you something about Cam that many of you don't see. Cam grew up to relative affluent African American Parents being that his father is ex-nfl and a Pastor.

Cam's father never played a down in the NFL. He was an off-season/practice squad player for Dallas in 1983 and Buffalo in 1984. He made, in those two years, about as minimum as minimum gets in the NFL. And, back in that day, that wasn't very much.

I don't know where in the heck you got that Cam came from an "affluent" family. Unless, of course, you are definiting "affluent" as "anything not impoverished". Is it just because he dresses cleanly and neatly? Is that why you are assuming "affluence"? Are you assuming no young African-American male would EVER wear a sweater-vest unless they were "affuent"? Sounds to me like you've been watching too much "Fresh Prince of BelAir".

Because Cam and his family were and always have been solidly middle class. I've seen pictures of the house he grew up in... not much to it with respect to "affluence".

You need to do a little more research.

He said relatively affluent so he pretty much meant affluent for black people which isn't just pinpoint accurate but he's not too far off base. Growing up in a middle class household with both parents there seems pretty rare when the press reports so many stories of struggling nfl athletes.

This thread is spot on and this was my number one concern with Cam.

Yea my thread looks foolish now seeing as he proved most of what I thought wrong, but the general idea of this thread is pretty in line with the topic. So far I am happy and this thread is making me even happier, hoping that cam will utilize losses instead of letting losing get the better of him.

Veteran leadership making a difference....helping Cam to learn to be a team player. Props to him for taking it in...and for giving them credit.

Good read.

Yeah, we all know unlike Luck and The Golden Calf of Bristol, playing the QB position is not a given for Cam. He, unlike those two, have to EARN his position and unlike those two, need to be constantly monitor like a convict and told how to act, says our media.

So then, you must really believe that Cam's father actually sort money for him to go to MSU and Auburn simply because the media reported it to be so?

And many of you refuse to acknowledge the power of our media on the minds of America.

I want to backtrack from this statement "Hopefully they'll get him some more help in the off season to teach him to talk more like a politician, instead of giving his honest opinion" because I don't want him to be a lying politician. Instead, let me say I'd like them to polish his public speaing skills. He's the face of the franchise and hopefully will be for a very long time so we need him to sound like a champion as well as play like one. We want the discussion to be about what he does on the field and not about what he said.

You should listen to some early interviews of Jordan. He sounded nothing like the calm, regal figure most think of when they think of His Airness.

As for "affluent," I'm sure Cam's excellent sense of style has more to do with his upbringing than anything to do with money.

hmm i always felt that his teammates felt that way but didn't really believe it, the more you know!

And why is Grossman words holding more weight then Steve and Rivera when they said they didn't have a problem with what Cam said? It seems the media turns to Grossman for his feelings about Cam and when he gives it uses it as grounds that everyone else shares his view.

Is Grossman the Captain of the Panthers?

You can change your name footballisasport, but unless you change your message, you will always be easily recognizable.
