Todd McShay's 1st NFL Mock Draft

Props to the talkbackers in this post.. very informed and well thought out arguments. I fall on the no wr side of things. WRs seem to be a dime a dozen and as i've often seen, a great QB makes great WRs. We have a great WR, we have a great QB, and we have lots of WR prospects. Lefell and Gettis are very good and will get much much better! We also have offensive Weapons out the ying yang with Stew and DWill and our TE's...

Defense is the key. According to McShay's mock... we could afford to trade down to the 20's and still get the best DT/CB available.. If that somehow got us two more round 2's we could really load up on some fresh Defensive talent!

I would love to see us become the most fearsome D in the league.. year in and year out!

So because Jarret had better numbers in college than Calvin Johnson he is better in the NFL? You're stats in college are not necessarily indicative to how you will perform in the NFL; therefore, while comparing Jarret and Blackmon's stats in college can be helpful, it is by no means at all an indication of how they will perform at the next level.

Calvin Johnson's stats in college:

Year School Class Pos Rec Yds Avg TD

2004 Georgia Tech FR WR 48 837 17.4 7

2005 Georgia Tech SO WR 54 888 16.4 6

2006 Georgia Tech JR WR 76 1202 15.8 15

And for those wanting a WR, there are some decent WR's available in Free Agency, even though they will most likely be somewhat costly. Also, in Carolina's 6 wins, Cam has average 191 yards/game passing. In their 9 losses, he has averaged 305 yards/game. The key to Carolina winning does not revolve around having a high powered passing attack, it revolves around a passing game that compliments a strong running game.

I thought Matt Barkley wasnt going pro? I would honestly love to get Blackmon. You can never have enough weapons on offense and Smitty isnt getting any younger, Blackmon would be a perfect replacement. I know Gettis is coming back next year but is he or Lafell good enough to be the #1? plus imagine how good our offense will be with Blackmon, Smitty Lafell and Gettis?

First of all the best reciever in college this year is sammy watkins but he is a FR. That being said Blackman is a baller. Alshon is more in the mold of Keyshon. Throw it near him and he will catch it.

All that said, this team needs defense. I still say trade down because no stud will be left by the time we draft. I love ingram at South carolina. He is the next Levon kirkland. Like I said before as this team gets better things that looked like dire needs would begin to clear up. DE's got better. Young DL's got better. Corners, well...........

Look, lets be honest. This team Could have been a 10+ win team as is. They are pretty good but played super young because they were. We need studs, and if we cant find them get picks and free agents.

As far as WR's go, I think Cam has made the panthers an attractive option for free agents. WR's love the deep ball.

I'm gunshy as a mufka takin a WR in the first round due to past experiences but it would crack the offence wide @ss open if we hit it. Dline, Oline and LBs need shored up first. Oh yea, and special teams....

Eloquently said.

I'd like to nominate this as post of the year candidate. And you just barely made it in time to be considered. Well played.
