Steve Smith- "Coach Rivera, he brings an aura, he says we're playing for the next three Sundays" (even though this weekend's game is a Saturday).

That makes it sound abundantly clear that everyone is on notice going into the last couple games, and that jobs are on the line. Remember that there wasn't time to begin this process in earnest this past spring and summer. The staff had an accelerated free-agent window followed by limited time with the current players and off we went. You can't play around with the roster during the season a whole lot, you play your best hand. Now we are in a position to make up some evaluation time since we aren't playoff eligible. Steve sounds like he knows the deal and also sounds like a Rivera believer....good stuff.

Ill try and recap it, some of the questions where just asked by steve to mike and vice versa like they were on the phone don't really know if it was scripted or not, pretty cool though.

Are you surprised that cam is doing this good?

Mike: hes having a great year you know i called him at the start of the year and told him just to have fun and play the game but at the same time take it serious, its a credit to him and the people around him

Steve: No im not surprised i got the chance to have a few private work outs with him during the off season so i already knew what he could do, people will have there expectations but they don't get the opportunity to watch the guy work during practice and see his drive.

Do you guys miss playing each other?

Mike: No, playing against steve and delhomme watching them then having to play against guys like kris jenkins they just got better every year, no i dont miss it

Steve: i don't miss it having to watch mike run and rip

Whats it been like to mentor cam?

Steve: you know hes not the only rookie we got, we got Bell of the offensive line playing too, but you know they're a lot of guys on this team that help give the young guys information on what to do, its not just about on field you know coming from college to the pros you get a lot of money and family and some young guys don't know how to manage it i try to help those guys

Steve asks Mike, You got a boat load of young players up there Mike hows that like

Mike: They're a lot of young guys, there was a lot of expectations of this team at the start of the year and we kind of fell into that trap... but the last 3 or 4 weeks it's been a different vibe around here and this is probably the most we have felt together all year.

How good do you think your guys teams will be down the road? Mike your team has a chance to make the playoffs

Mike: Yeah we gotta play Dallas in a hostile environment so it's gonna be tough, but there is a different vibe around here you know and i think we can finish strong.

Steve: I think Dallas is in trouble, you don't wanna play against a team who is all-in because you don't know what you're gonna get

Then after it was over Mike yelled "Ay steve stay healthy bro" and Steve said "Appreciate it you too"

there was a couple more questions but it was mostly answered by steve and mike complimenting each other.

Oh i forgot, it wasn't just Steve, Michael Vick was also there with him.

When I heard that, I didn't understand what he was saying since we've got two, not three, games left. Then Steve cleared it up saying the third Sunday was in September 2012. Thought that was thought-provoking way for Rivera to motivate the team to give maximum effort this year; they're playing to be around next year.
