Will NFL coaches have to rethink their schemes?

While I realize there have been great tight ends thoughout the history of football it now appears they are becoming much more of a weapon thoughout the league and much more difficult to defend.

Does anyone think that coaches will have to start changing their schemes or will teams draft a different competency in lbs and safeties to defend them? I know we give up to many yards to them.

Actually I always thought tight-end was used extensively by other teams. It was a very popular flavor except in Carolina it was like scweddy balls. This year not so much the last few years our tight ends were extra lineman for that max protect crap offense we ran.

I think as more teams go to pass-first offenses, it creates a lot more opportunities for TEs to get mismatches. It has created a demand for more athletic TEs who can beat LBs 1 on 1 and are too big for safeties.

I'm sure defensive coordinators will catch up eventually, but judging from the success of New England's offense, they arent there yet

Teams that can generate pass rush with their front four should fare better covering TE's. When you have to blitz to get pressure, you are more likely to get burned by the TE's.

And of course teams that are willing to pass more in traditional run situations can really hurt you with the TE's.
