"....couple that with who we're going to get back, you know, with Thomas and Jon, we can take the next step...."

Of course Jon Beason is expected to return, but how about hearing Thomas Davis' name prominently mentioned? I've heard all the reasons why Thomas Davis is finished, and I can't make a medical argument to the contrary (not a doctor), but it sure as hell sounded like Rivera is expecting at the very least to have a serious look at Thomas Davis again next year as a member of the 2012 roster....contract talk notwithstanding....

Thoughts?

If they enter next season expecting Beason and Davis to be anchors on defense, they expect to repeat the problems of this season.

You can't count on Beason or Davis to be there EVER AGAIN, and they need to approach the draft and offseason with that in mind. If they bring in guys who can compete to start over both, so be it. It has to be done.

Agreed, but from everything I've read he's not only taking the chance, he's approaching it like it's just another knee surgery. If he makes the 2012 roster (no way I'd bet against it), I'm sure the staff would have a contingency plan in place.

At this point, they're probably considering "Plan Senn".

The team will have a tough decision with Davis. It'd be extremely regretful if we let him go and then he goes to another team and stays healthy, destroying everyone in the process. I think we should keep him. He is too talented to let another team have him and potentially benefit from it.

I've always thought we should move Beason to WLB with Conner at MLB and Anderson at SLB.

I can't agree with this! IMO, Beason is more effective as the Mike than Will. If we had to then okay, but I wanna see a true WLB brought in this year via draft or FA. The only WLB FA I really see is McIntosh! Either Rocky or one of our first two picks needs to address WLB. I like Senn and feel he deserves a shot at the starting gig, but not sure if he is every down solution. TD is a nonfactor IMO! Great if he holds up but history has proven he won't! Either way, I have faith in RR to give us a solid solution to this problem!

I don't know what the downside would be to resigning him to the vet minimum. They could add some incentives that would still pay him well if he stays healthy. The mistake, which we also made this year, would be to presume he will be able to make it through the season. We need to bring in some new blood to compete for the spot and provide depth when/if he goes down.

If he does his rehab correctly and isn't rushed there's no reason why TD can't return.

He's done it correctly twice before.

I understand the loyalty and wishful thinking but at some point somebody has to be realistic whether it's Davis or the team.
