Extend Cam 8 or 10 years THIS offseason

Recommended Posts

We'll pay whatever it takes to keep Cam here, when it's time to do so. But I wouldn't be surprised if he takes less than what he could get on the open market, especially if he is established as the team's franchise player and understands they will need money to put people around him.

His remarks about taking a massive pay cut as the #1 pick vs. Bradford (around $45 million less!) were rather telling:

"It's still more money than I've ever had, or will need."

This.

I apologize if there is a rule that we cannot negotiate this season with him. But when you have the opportunity, you don't think of having him for cheap for another year or two. You do what it takes to lock him up and don't risk him going to New York or Los Angeles or God knows where else when that time is not as far off.

This is paramount everything else we do as an organization. Every draft pick, every offensive scheme, every free agent we sign. All should come secondary to this.

Re-signing him to a lucrative contract prematurely only hurts the team, though, and makes it that much more difficult to bring in additional talent to surround him with. Having talent around him will make him NOT want to leave.

And if he wants to taste Free Agency, there is always the Franchise tag.

Yep, Cam wants to win. I could see him leaving due to continual losing seasons far more easily than him leaving due to money.

i love people who think he's going to bail after five years.

in two he'll be offered a machine that prints money, and his entire life will already be entrenched in Charlotte.

he's going nowhere unless he starts fighting dogs.

Don't be so naive, that he's going nowhere unless he starts fighting dogs. Come on now. I am from close to Cleveland. Same stuff was said about Lebron, and he was from nearby. Don't ever think it CAN'T happen.

Basketball is a completely different sport.

seriously the lebron james comparison is laughable.

Ignore for a moment the differences in the complexities of the game as well as the financials, but the Cavaliers did nothing to help Lebron while he was in cleveland. One good draft or free agent signing and that team wins a championship.

Also James not turning into Lebrick but whatever
