Before Tuesday’s practice, Steve Smith spoke on the soaring expectations media and fans are placing on record-setting QB Cam Newton: “We don’t care what his expectations are. That is the difference between spectator, fan and player. We don’t care what you think. Cam has leadership potential.”

Jordan Gross noticed a steady improvement. “I like him better now than in September,” Gross said. “He doesn’t carry as much weight on his shoulders. He understands it’s not just him who can win a game.”

Thats who QB's normally become is a Leader on the field and off the field. Hard to do in just a few days especially at this level. To lead at this level first u got to get respect and as we all know respect is earned not just bestowed. Cam has earned respect from every one not just our team. Looks to me like he could be Great if all goes well.

Here's Hoping He leads us to The Promise Land!!!!!!!

Not sure how to interpret Gross' comments

I take it to mean that Cam's growing up a bit in realizing he can't put all the pressure on himself. His teammates are professionals too, and he can't feel like he has to try to make a play every single time the ball is in his hands, because he'll make mistakes and put the team in a bad position. If he shows trust in them, rather than putting it all on himself, that's another step towards real leadership.

Michael Jordan used to try to win every single game by himself, but it wasn't until he started to put trust in his teammates that he became a champion.

I'm going to guess it's just that Cam is making a transition from trying to win by himself and just be better than everyone else to being more of an actual leader. There's probably myriad little things that go into that that we don't see...from his attitude in the huddle to the way he conducts himself in meetings.
