it's not a big deal if they don't go and the panthers might be better off in the long run if they don't. it only causes contractual problems for teams and makes it more difficult to keep talented players and as a result also harder to bring in more talent.

pro-bowl is just a popularity contest. quality players generally get snubbed so that marginal players form hyped teams with big markets can go. fans being able to vote as many times as they want and now able to use a macro that will allow their computer to vote automatically for them make it even more of a joke than it has been.

let them feel snubbed by the masses and disrespected and let them use next year to rub the leagues noses in it. we'll be better for it.

it's not about the national recognition. it's about the contractual headaches that ensue from players saying "i'm a pro-bowler now. you got to pay me more or else..." and the hawking of players by agents walking around and promising players that they can get them new contracts with high profile big market teams. it's also about allowing them to play in a meaningless game and exposing them to the possibility of injury. who wants that?

you want to reward your team with a tropical vacation, just give them one.
