Merill Hoge: "Panthers offense maybe the scariest offense in all of football"

Considering our offense requires a QB to stick in the pocket and make deep vertical throws....I don't see how you can argue Clausen wouldn't implode it. Jeff Davidson sucked as an OC....but at least Cam would have sat in the pocket and threw to Smitty. Once you hit those it opens up more.

Obviously the offense would not be identical with Clausen, but that doesn't mean it would be 31st or 32nd. You are basically saying that Clausen would have made absolutely no progress at all, which I completely disagree with since what limited experience we had with him in the preseason suggested he had made some, if not a ton, of progress.

I did a breakdown before but Clausen's attempts actually compared favorably to the offense in 2007 that Chud ran. Long and the short of it is that while I think the offense does work better with Cam and is more potent with Cam for a variety of reasons, I think it is silly to think that Clausen would have not grown at all... considering we have some small amount of evidence directly to the contrary.

Don't get me wrong. I am sure Chud brings a tremendous amount to our offense. Anderson could probably run it at least well enough to get us in the "average" or slightly below range. Clausen, not so much.

But Newton is the toy that really lets Chud use all his tricks, or at least many of them, as I am sure he still has some stuff up his sleeve for next year and beyond.

I do agree that the offense is completely different with Cam under center. I just think that he is one of (perhaps the largest, but not the sole) reason we went from 32nd last year all the way to top 10.

Wouldn't be the same offense with anyone else under center, but that doesn't mean we would be stuck at 32nd again without him is all I think.

Can't wait for the off-season and the development of the entire package. The more each player's strengths are worked into the playbook, the better....I doubt we've seen the playbook used from cover to cover yet....

It's pretty bad when the only evidence to support Cam being the reason for our turnaround is to compare him to Jimmy. Yes when you take any decent QB and insert Clausen the offense is going to suck. Cam is a huge part of the turnaround, but that has as much to do with how bad Jimmy is as it does with Cam being good.
