If we do go 5-1 to close things out, it will be very bittersweet

It's going to be agony going over all of those close losses and blown leads we had throughout the year in my mind as Wild Card Weekend kicks off.

1 yard short with all the momentum against Arizona

Up big against Green Bay

Team-record yards vs. the Bears only to come up with a Naanee drop to end it

Giving up that long drive vs. Brees late in the game to lose to the Saints

Mare's miss vs. the Vikings

The Lions meltdown

The Falcons meltdown

Looking at the standings and tiebreakers, if we had just won *2* of those games, we'd be in the playoffs. Ugh. I mean I'm definitely extremely optimistic for 2012 as long as Hurney gets his act together in the offseason, but damn that's depressing to look at. If you have this same group of players 2 years from now with more maturity under their belts, they very well could be 12-2 right now even with no defense and special teams for most of the season.

I agree. We *COULD HAVE* been a playoff team this year... Which is scary considering the holes we had coming into the season and then the injuries once it commenced.

I'm personally disappointed that we didn't get 10 wins, because I felt as though we were capable of getting them... But we didn't.

We're WAY ahead of where 90% of the "supposed fans" here thought we'd be.

This season sucks regardless. BUT we have a very very bright future ahead of us.

Can't think like that, it will drive you crazy. I had no expectations this season and for the most part kept my emotions in check. So I am very pleased with everything, considering if you look at the whole 2011 offseason/season.

But this offseason will be a very looooooooooooooooooooooooong offseason waiting for August.

It could be worse:

You were a 2-14 team last year. You're now a 5-9.

Yes, it's clear the Panthers could have done better but it's not because your offense didn't do their part. They kept up with GB, Saints, and even Falcons. What I saw today was a offensive team that wasn't pressured and felt the need to forced the game. That's because the defense finally showed up and seems to be getting it together.

Baby steps might not be what you want but it's better to take them than play hot this season and cool down next season.

    • I see it this way--what if you play Hubbard and he blows a knee?  I would not be surprised to see Horn benched.  I would not be surprised to see veterans like Jewell, Wonnum, Clowney, and maybe even Bryce benched at some point to prevent some injury that might impact the offseason/camp etc.  In addition, it would assure a top 6 or so pick.  In addition, you get to see how players like Plummer and a few others look when the bullets are real (unlike in preseason.)  I realize that some of you think this is lunacy, but it happens and it is smart, actually.  I think you try to win, you just try to win with developmental players while protecting your core for 2025.
    • Also, look up the number of times Jake and Cam had the 32nd-ranked defense. Young's ceiling is below theirs, no doubt at all (I'd like a QB in this draft personally and not in the 6th-7th round) but those teams had strong defenses and weapons like Steve Smith and Muhsin Muhammad or Steve Smith, Greg Olsen and Jeremy Shockey (who'd probably trump Thielen now).
    • This is truly one of the most retarded takes I've ever seen. Young has underachieved (other than the last couple months) but you don't even look at the numbers when you throw out crap like this. Josh Rosen's best QB rating ever was 88.9 in a 30-10 loss. Young's surpassed that twice in the last month. Hell, Rosen's career QB rating is low 60s -- a hell of a lot lower than Young's mid-70s rating. Now, Young will play like crap the last two games in large part because he has no weapons, no run game, absolutely no defense and a crap OL, but he'll be expected to be 1984 Dan Marino by the people who consider him 2019 Josh Rosen. Makes no sense. Kinda like those comparisons.
