I did not see it posted and I had a question about something he said.

-- I keep hearing that even though the Panthers have just five picks now, the chances of them only using five picks on draft weekend is slim.

then someone asked....

What's the more likely scenario: Trading down to get more picks? Or, trading players for more picks? (Who do we have to offer in a trade? Other than 90, that is.) Or, another next year's pick traded for this year?

and he responded with...

It won't be player-for-pick, unless you count Julius.

They've traded next year's first before, and there's nothing saying they won't again.

But I still think they move Peppers, so there's that.

So my question is, how do we add more picks by trading next years 1st rounder? Keep in mind that last year's extra 1st round cost us two draft picks. Or do we enter this endless cycle of trading next year's draft picks?

We were a 12-4 team last year. I doubt we trade Peppers and with that 5 picks is good enough. I see no reason to trade another 1st in this draft because it is so poor on talent.

They'll probably just suck it up and get some defensive help in the first couple of picks and address our need of OL depth through free agency, have a mediocre season and be in a good position to pick one of the outstanding qbs that will be coming out next spring.

I had a dream about this moment... When I was making love... to my wife Donna. On top a her; powerful thrusts, filling the sultry night air. Heavy breath. My son Gabriel walked in, little boy. My wife sprung out of bed and said "No, Gabriel! Leave!" And I said "No, honey, shut your mouth, let him watch." Let him watch what is being consecrated here. And I want the people to watch what is going to be consecrated here. And I will bring my son down here, and he will watch.

easier route (don't read "more realistic" or "better") to take than thinking that we could actually have a good record and get into the playoffs and still be able to draft a good QB next year.

With what Cutler got, it is hard to believe we can't get more than one 1st rounder for him. Sure, Cutler is more integral to the team and offense but Peppers is not only a number 2 pick in the draft but a four time bowler who is proven. Seems that is worth more than a 1st round pick which will go to a guy who hasn't taken a snap in the NFl who will still want gobs of guaranteed money up front and could ride the pines.

I'll point back to history with a question I asked in another thread.

Who remembers from whom Marty Hurney learned the GM job?

(one of our resident other teamers knows)
