As requested...Cam Newton Record watch

TRD, you know much more about the NFL game than I, but a few things I would like to bring up about Cam.

Have you watched his development? He has shown fairly dramatic improvement at each and every level, and he only had 1 year starting at JUCO and 1 year starting at FBS and then goes directly into starting game 1 as a rookie in a shortened preseason???

He originally didn't even get an offer from Auburn because he couldn't pass, but then he goes on to win a JUCO NC and a BCS NC? Just go listen to Urban Meyer's comments before the BCS NC on how much Cam's passing had improved in the 2 years since he had seen him on the UF campus.

I'm sure you know how hard he worked before and after the draft -- and it was nothing new. He was doing the same things in his 1 year at Auburn. It just doesn't seem to be strictly or even mostly about the money, IMO.

You speak of the other teams that will adjust and game-plan to take away his run. I don't even have to tell you what that means -- it opens up other parts of the field and makes it easier to score in other ways. They did it last year, he just passed his way to beat bama, South Carolina, and Oregon at the end of the season.

Will he develop into one of the best passing QB's ever? I'm sure the answer to that is an unequivocal "no." But he has already proven he can and will evolve, and do so quickly.

The most amazing part of watching his development is realizing that we haven't come close to witnessing his ceiling.

Seriously? You can't honestly be a football fan and not know how many guys make up a team

I do believe he was counting 11 starters on offense, 11 starters on defense, a kicker, and a punter.

Kind of a retarded way of doing it, yes, but I think that is where he got that number.

Which, of course, totally ignores the holder for the place kicker, long snappers, up backs on the punt team, gunners, etc. etc. etc.

That's why you throw the back shoulder, that guys like AROD have mastered and it's unstoppable. I don't care about what coaches say now, we were called the best 2-6 team in history after we lost to a 1-6 team. Coaches say poo like that all the time. What happens when they stack 9 in the box, man to man on our receivers, and force Cam to make a pass?

I want him to have done that before, that's all.

Bro if there is 9 in the box that throw isnt that hard, if you think hes not progressing you are blind. I watched him correct a mistake I just saw him make against the Falcons. Up big in the second half against the texans he protected the ball and took the sack instead of trying to make a risky play with the lead. Hes learning every week and he will be better next year and more then likely dwill and stew will see continued sucess next year because of him. We will have the MOST talent in the league at the offensive skill positions next year. If there are 9 men in the box inside the 10 we will score 80% of the time imo

Have to run to some meetings but I will address these posts when I return. I think you guys both miss the point of my posts as I think Cam has developed a lot and all I want is for him to continue developing. Cam is doing way more than I or anyone expected at this point.

Somewhere. Some place. In a dark basement filled with trash, porn, blow up doll, and pffl bedroom. Pffl heart just broke. A whisper can be heard ...

"Oh no. TRD. I thought you were on my side. Don't go to the dark side. Cam is garbage. He is completely inefficient."

Speak for yourself, there were plenty people who believed in Newtons ability on this level. Some just listened to others who didnt know what they were talkin bout. Now theyre "shocked" a #1 overall pick is playing well.

Lets keep this thread about Cams records, and not long drawn out posts about how worried you are about Cam.

in fairness, Newton is generating more offensive production than any rookie QB in NFL history. So, even as someone who supported drafting Cam....I think most have to shocked he is this good, this soon.

Pretty much. If you thought Cam was going to be this productive in his rookie season, you probably were a homer with blurred vision just happening to be luckily right this time.

In regards to whether Cam will continue to develop, or eventually feel he has "arrived" and quit putting in the work, I really have no concern anymore that will ever be the case, and it really has little to do with the numbers or records, but what I see on the field.

There hasn't been a single game this year, not even that dud against Tennessee, where I didn't see something new in Cam's development as a quarterback. And while no player is ever a finished product, the kind of strides he is making simply do not happen without hard work, absorbing coaching, and competitive desire.

From as far back into his background as I can find, Cam is obsessed with football. He loves the game, loves to have fun, and is all-consumed with winning. Not the money (because he was indifferent to the huge paycut he took as the #1 pick compared to Bradford,) and not the fame (anyone seen him at any nightclubs?)

My only concern has been his adjustment to being on a losing team, but even that is starting to ease because he continues to play hard and have fun despite there being no chance for playoffs this year.

The question isn't "is Cam going to continue to progress?"

The question is how soon before he's one of the greatest QBs in the league.
