The first ever fan fest I went to I must have been 10, 11. We got there early so it wasn't too crowded..so I got a seat by the end zone, behind the field goal. I was sitting beside this woman with quite a few kids..they were crawling about the couple of seats that were near, when suddenly the littlest little girl yelled out for her dad. Next thing I know, John Kasay is trotting over to the stands..that was his girl. I was blown away at this point, I've never been so close to a real, Carolina Panther in person. Kasay as most of y'all know was a very nice man, and greeted me wholesomely.. By the time he had left, I had gotten him to sign this Carolina Panther football I had.. He signed his name, and under his name he signed "Psalm 15". It was an experience I'll probably never forget. And man, to see him perform well..on ANOTHER team? While Mare is being the opposite of clutch? :mad2:

I know this is a random story none of you care about, but hell..I'm going to get back to rollin this second :sifone:

As others have said, put him out there for the rest of the year and see what he can do. If it doesn't work out, bring in some other young guy.

But keeping Mare? For what, our playoff run?

My guess is that we can't cut Mare now because of accelerating his total hit into this year would put us over the cap. After the season, bye-bye!

We've hamstrung ourselves by giving Mare a 4-year contract - what teams commits to a kicker for that length of time for that amount of money? They can't/won't cut him because of the commitment they've made. $4m guaranteed? Wow, Olindo must have the best agent in the NFL.

The new guy is just a signal to Mare that he needs to shape up. They can't fire him nor should they considering what they paid him. Kicking is mental so they're mentally working on him.

Good, I would rather see a young guy with a monster leg missing field goals while he is learning to kick in the nfl than an overpaid veteran who shanks 30 yd field goals consistentley.

Disappointed in Rivera in this regard. If Mare choking wasn't enough to show him he was in error in his approach to what he preferred in his kickers, I don't know what will.

One FG attempt in college doesn't exactly make confident with this guy. Amazing how stubborn Rivera has been about this, kickoff specialists are useless now, why can't he come to grips with it.

True, but he was there with Alex Henery who is probably the best kicker in school history.

I get that. My point was that we don't know the details of Kunalic's contract. I doubt that much of it, if any is guaranteed.

Granted, the fact that the gave him 3 years speaks volumes.
