my biggest problem with hurney is that he has sucked major balls over the past 3 or 4 years as a GM. just HORRIBLE decisions over this span.

It's kinda like how jon gruden was held on to for too long in tampa because he wont them a super bowl his first year there, and then each year after that they got progressively worse. Hurney just has not been good over the past few years.

Ok my beef ain't with Hurney about the way he drafts. The draft is hit and miss deal with players talent and all. But the thing that pisses me off about Hurney is the way he does in the FA market. Hurney goes out in the FA market still thinking this is 2003 and this is John Fox team. At the time Fox came in Hurney became GM aswell. Fox for most of his Career with the panthers he was known for going after scrubs in FA and Hurney did it. Because thought he would bring inn scrubs then he could make them into good players. But thing is Hurney has yet to figure out that Fox is long gone and this now is Ron Rivera team. Ron needs talent players and not scrubs who can barely play. That is just not acceptable no more. Hurney needs to get with the program and start going after more talented players then we currently have.

I think Hurney is very good at limiting his exposure to criticism. We spend whatever we have to spend to keep our own players so people can't complain about losing someone. We rarely bring in any noteable outside FAs so people can't complain about some random no-name scrub not playing at a pro-bowl level. He generally only adds new players through the draft and he enters most drafts short on picks. People don't expect much from late rounders so you've got a couple early picks each year to criticize and that's it.

Instead of nitpicking a handful of moves I prefer to judge the end result of the team that's assembled each year. The totality of draft picks, free agent moves, cap management, negotiations, everything, all adds up to the final product, the overall quality and talent level of the 53 man roster. From this perspective I think it's obvious we aren't one of better run teams.

I do think that if Rivera fails to produce a winner, Hurney will be on the hotseat, but thats probably two to three years down the road.

The stubborn-ness to hold on to Peppers instead of trading him.

The trades for Armanti and Brown.

Our depth depleted because he continues to ignore depth.

This guy is continuing to push us backward instead of forward.

it only looks bad because it turned into the 33rd pick in the draft and fox refused to use him. This is basically his rookie year.

It's not a good pick by any means but it's typically just tossed in as a reason to poo can hurney. if you look at it by itself, meh, whatever, people miss, but it's too early to say anything for a developmental player. maybe he was too expensive but hurney typically gets great value and im willing to give him a pass.

it's always lumped in with the same list of things that aren't really firing offenses.

a lot of people have an axe to grind with hurney because when things aren't going well they just want to throw everyone against the wall, which is a very immature reaction, the kind you'd expect from the mental midgets that trawl this board for rep.

take into account every single thing hurney does for the Panthers, not just draft and free agency (the things most low information posters actually know about), compare them to performances from the rest of the league during the same time period, then take into consideration everything else, from free agent pickups to contracts.

then see if your list of reasons to fire hurney is anything more than the same five or six things that always get brought up over a decade + career with the team.
