Prolly cause no scandal. Think about what that does to a reputation, whether true or false, and think of the spin the media will take, when it's no longer about football but other off-the-field bullshit.

It changes everything.

Also add in the fact that he has already graduated and was pursuing a masters so it gives him the true "student-athlete" appeal.

Newton had the scandal(s), he'd hopped around to three colleges, and he didn't graduate.

Question? Did Andrew Luck graduate? And I don't consider scandals created by our media real scandals.

Anyone with some sense can tell that what took place with Cam's father didn't constitute a scandal. Since when a father boasting about his son became scandal. It only became one when the fans of one school saw it fit to create a scandal with the aid of folks like ESPN against the arch-rival school who ended up with Cam.

The last time I checked a this country subscribed to the belief that a man was innocent until PROVEN guilty. Not have speculations, gossip and assumptions created by our media being assumed sign of guilt.

And, so what he went to three different schools. That shouldn't make it okay to smear and ridicule an athlete. Since when did we live in such a puritan society?

Our media spin what they know is going to be easily accepted and pushed by their audience. That is why Cam Newton was told that he had to prove himself and every move he made would be watched and scrutinized like a criminal.

If there was a strong-back lash against how Cam was being treated by the fans, think The Golden Calf of Bristol, the media would have not continued. But, there was a stong desire to tarnish and punish Cam because he help Auburn win and the school's rivals, some very much in the media, were more than happy to use Cam as a scape-goat for their anger.

RGIII will not be treated like Cam because the media wouldn't dare be stupid to play the negative streotypical games they played against Cam with RG III. When they are ready, they will find other ways of hurting his stock. So if I was RG III I would brace myself for the "you're to short and your arm isn't strong enough to get drafted as a high QB" talking points. Don't worry RG III will be scrutinized just like Cam but in a different manner.

Geesh, How come he is adointed great after getting the heisman, when our heisman qb can't do this, cant do that. I will always hate the media.

Because before cam newton no heisman winner ever had a season cam newton had...plus newton smashed the stereotype that he can only run and he won't be good...RG3 is benefiting from cam newton's success as a rookie...making all these so called experts eat their words...

A little late, but it really isn't complicated. In the NFL you have to be able to THROW. Final year college stats.

RGIII: 402 pass attempts with 291 completions for 72.4%

Cam: 280 pass attempts with 185 completions for 66.1%

Cam was questioned for his ability to throw down-field given his very small number of attempts in the offense he played in.

That is if the scandal was real and not media created. A father being offered money for his kid is not the same as a father shopping his kid around for money.

And, we all know that many would have given Cam the benefit of the doubt about his time at UF if he wasn't being tarnished the way he was.

Let's be real, there are way to many folks who make a living writing other people's resumes for me to believe that what Cam did was so scandalous. And that's if he did it in the first place.

Cam was a target because of him playing in the SEC, rumors of his dad shopping him to MSST (literally)...as everyone knows, SEC is dominant and their opponents/enemies would like nothing more than to drag everyone suspicious through the mud. Fans of teams not in the SEC get more than a little bit jealous and I'm sure it extends to officials and team representatives. Who knows how much of it is biased. There have also always been rumors swirling about Auburn being notoriously dirty in their recruiting tactics. Marcus Lattimore, who plays for the SC gamecocks, said when he went to Auburn he had slutty co-eds in his lap offering him "favors" and coaches were 'shaking his hand' with money in their palm....FWIW.......

IMO all college programs are dirty, its just the matter of who gets busted and who lives to avoid sanctions and act like they haven't done anything wrong.

With that being said, for whatever reason, I have a inkling that RG3 has bust written all over him.

Playing for Washington, not facing a decent defense maybe ever(?) in the Big 12.....he won't even sniff anything Cam has accomplished this past season.

Not because I'm a Panthers homer either, I just felt like he was riding the wave of Cam's overwhelming success to a bigger payday than he probably deserves.......and none of the experts will admit but Luck won't sniff any of Cam's records either this year. Not bad for someone that some people said pre-draft "should learn how to be a TE"

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
