Jason Baker is 35th in punting, 36th in net punting

I think it's time to get rid of both Mare and Baker.

Go out and find some young, cheap kickers. If they don't work out, bring in some more. Continue until we find someone that can get the job done.

I hate it that we are paying maybe 5 million a year for two guys that are abysmal, when we could get the same result for 1.4.

He's been terrible for years.

I don't recall him being terrible...

His stats have steadily declined since '06 which was his statistically best season with avg net of 39.0 and avg distance of 45.7.

Maybe he's just getting too old.

His net went down each year since '06:

39.0, 37.7, 37.4, 36.6, 36.5 and this year he's at 33.9.

His avg has steadily gone down, but not as much:

45.7, 44.2, 44.1, 44.1, 43.1, and this year it's really dropped to 41.7

I made this thread 6 weeks ago, and I got blasted for it. Baker is not only the worst punter in the league, but there were a few punters better than Baker that were released by their respective teams. I'd like to spend a 7th round pick on the best punter in the draft... whoever that is. Anytime you can draft a starting player with a 7th round pick, you do it... I don't care if he is a punter. 7th round picks are typically to be for special teams players.
i think you've said this in other threads, but i can't remember that actually happening. at any rate, boo hoo.

i agree about maybe drafting a new punter...or kicker...at least i wouldn't be opposed to it.

WTF happened to him... he was really good in previous seasons. Did he forget how to punt?
Took the words right out of my mouth. He used to be pretty good.
he's been overrated by panther fans for years. same with kasay. both guys have the game passing by and both guys have been liabilities for years, just for different reasons. baker because he's bad and kasay because he forced us to use up another roster spot.
He's been terrible for years.
yep. he had one season not too long ago that he had a couple blocked simply because he just wasn't paying attention.
It's pretty clear that Hurney should have kept Kasay, but cut Baker and found a punter who could also kick off--which isn't easy, but possible.
nope. cutting kasay was absolutely the right thing to do. replacing him with mare was the mistake.

it's much easier to replace kasay with a kicker that can do both than finding a punter who can do KOs. only real reason people wanted to keep kasay around was because they were sentimental.

have you seen our coverage team? Look at the Hester and PP returns.....PP should of gone for nothing.....Hester a short return. Those type plays greatly skew Baker's numbers. Baker's biggest issue is having too strong of a leg and out kicking his coverage on occassion.......his leg is good.

Coverage is the biggest issue.
