NC has adopted the castle doctrine with House Bill 650 passed this spring and went into full effect Dec. 1st. Now you can shoot to kill in your home, workplace or vehicle if you believe your life is in danger. Having someone breaking into your home with you present constitues "in danger" and you can shoot to kill. If you are sitting in your car and somebody forces their way inside in a threatening way, you can shoot to kill. The entire bill is here but most of it centers on allowing more concealed carry but the beginning of it talks about defense.

Don't think this guy has much hope however to avoid a murder charge.

Drives a sheriff car and his uniform says sheriff on it.

All the deputies drive a car that says "Mecklenburg County Sheriff". Chip Bailey is the Sheriff and he was elected in 2008. I know its not a big deal but I'm in an anal rententive OCD mood today. Sue me. :D

I was unaware that this had passed. I'm glad to know it was and am very happy to be wrong on that point.

Well... He had a point. Someone breaks into ur house, u shoot him in the leg, calls cops. Rober gets out of hospital and sues u for disability. Now u have to send him checks for the rest of his life. I have an issue with this.

I agree with this, plus I have also been told to empty the clip on such an idiot. A one shot to the heart on to the head approach can get you on intent...or so I've heard.

If someone is in your house in the middle of the night dial 911 and stay away from them.

Don't go shooting up your house. You are not John McClain.

Meh...I am not a gun owner but I can't say that is going to happen especially if you have a family. I am taking the offensive.

"Honey call 911 and tell the police someone broke into our house and to call an ambulance because someone is about to get their head bashed in with a Louisville Slugger"

No way I take the chance of someone walking into my kids room before the police get there.

Fixed, for my house.
