Cam Newton is the Greatest Rookie QB of All Time

I hope you mean consistency for being mediocre. Yeah he gave us a few great seasons but never the consistency we want.

2002: 7-9

2003:11-5

2004: 7-9

2005: 11-5

2006: 8-8

2007: 7-9

2008: 12-4

2009: 8-8

2010: 2-14

Yeah in theory it might be consistent but its not the type we want. When basically every other year is a down year you just get sick of it. I want back to back winning seasons and we weren't getting that with Fox. We wont get it this year but I can see it in 2012 and 2013.

I'm pretty sure he meant consistency as in the way that he coaches the game. No one could ever accuse Fox of not being consistently stubborn about the way he wanted to play football.

I don't think 2010 should be included in Fox's coaching resume because the owner/GM basically said "everything you have characteristically leaned on to win? Gone!" and ran with it.

Fox had a great start here, and I think he is a better-than-average coach, but I don't think he's great. He was the best coach we'd ever had, sure, but that isn't saying much given our short existence etc.

Cam is having a solid year for a rookie but I think the hype is blown out of proportion. His QB rating is 81.1, his production halts late in games, he's thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and the team hasn't won much with him as QB. People say that winning doesn't matter and all losses can be blamed on other team members. To me that's hardly fair.

Cam's QB rating is good for 19th in the NFL putting him behind players like Matt Moore, Andrew Dalton, The Golden Calf of Bristol and Mark Sanchez. QB rating seems to be a better indicator of how a QB is playing in their system because it relies more on efficiency instead of attempts and yards. It doesn't discredit a quarterback who has a coaching staff that mixes it up more with run and pass.

Roethlisberger had a 98.1 QB rating his rookie year and went 13-0 as a starter while also winning a playoff game. He was unanimously selected rookie of the year, the first time in 34 years a rookie QB was unanimously selected for the award.

Cam is having one of the greatest rookie seasons of all-time regardless of position and I would argue that he has already had the greatest rookie QB season of all-time:

- Most passing yards by a quarterback in debut game (422), September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals.

- Most passing yards by a quarterback in first two games (854), September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals and September 18, 2011 vs Green Bay Packers.

- Most passing yards by a rookie in a game (432), September 18, 2011 vs. Green Bay Packers.

- First quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in first career start, September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals.

- Sixth quarterback to throw for 400+ yards in back to back games.

- First quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in first two career starts, September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals and September 18, 2011 vs. Green Bay Packers.

- First rookie in NFL history to pass for more than 400 yards in back to back games, September 11, 2011 vs. Arizona Cardinals and September 18, 2011 vs. Green Bay Packers.

- Fastest player to throw for 1,000 yards (at Arizona Cardinals, vs Green Bay Packers, and vs Jacksonville Jaguars).

- First player in NFL history with at least five rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns in his first five games.

- First rookie in NFL history to throw for 10 touchdowns and run for 10 touchdowns in a season.

- Fourth rookie quarterback to throw for 3,000 yards in a season.

- Most rushing touchdowns in single season by a quarterback (13), achieved on December 4, 2011 vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

- He's quickly closing in on the rookie passing yardage record.

- He's also in reach of the all-time rookie rushing TD's record set by Eric Dickerson (18).

But his QB rating is only 81.1! All of those records don't mean anything, only the QB rating should matter. Cam is the greatest rookie of all time and he has done it in a lockout year where he didn't get a lot of time to work with the team.

Listen I don't want mediocrity. What we got for 2 seasons in a row now is worse though and if you think last year was Fox you are short sighted. I don't wanna trade for worse. I wanna trade for better. We have no guarantee that's what we actually got right now.

If you think we have a chance in hell of finishing 7-9 this year, you're dreaming. And two of those seasons were out of Fox's hands. We lost Jake for two, and Smith for one full season. We lost our best weapons.

We're not actually on track to be better than what we were. Nowhere near. It's all wishful thinking at this point.

For a guy that is always trying to convince us that you are some all-knowing football genius, you sure don't know much about the game.

Ever heard of Doug Williams?

Then I don't get your problem Marguide. I don't pretend I am an all-knowing football genius. History's not my strong point. Stats are.
