Karlos Dansby On Tim Tebow

I would respect his beliefs more if he acted them out in deeds rather than having to tell everyone about it all the time.....give his money and time to needy causes, witness to groups that want to hear about his faith, be a good role model. I am sure that there are a lot of athletes in professional sports who have spiritual and personal beliefs that are very important to them. The only difference in them and The Golden Calf of Bristol, is that is seems The Golden Calf of Bristol uses his faith to get attention. I prefer to see someone walk the walk and do not care for the TALK THE TALK.

Ill informed post of the day

Most that harp on The Golden Calf of Bristol's openness love to quote Matthew...but forget the verse that precedes it and puts it into context. It's just another comment from people that really don't want anyone expressing their religous beliefs publically because of their own issues with it.

despite all the charity already done....

Why don't you quote the chapter and verse.

edit: at the request of g5jamz, adding the first 4 verses

1 And beware not to do your justice before men to be seen by them; in that case you have no wage with your father who is in the heavens.

2 When therefore you do alms, do not blow a trumpet before you just as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they might be glorified by men. Amen, I say to you, they fully have their wage.

3 But when you do alms let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing,

4 so that your alms will be in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you.

5 And, when you pray, do not be as the hypocrites, since they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the plaza corners, so that they might be apparent to men. Amen, I say to you, they fully have their wage.

6 But you, when you pray, go into your chamber and, after closing the door, pray to your father who is in secret, and your father who sees in secret will reward you.

7 And while you are praying do not use repetitious words just as the gentile peoples, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.

8 Do not be like them, therefore, for your father knows what you need before you ask him.

Matthew 6:1-8 though the translation differs slightly depending on which 'version' you are reading. afaik this one comes from a more literal greek translation

now I understand that one could argue Jesus is only saying that it's bad to pray in public if you don't mean it, but... meh.

From what I've seen--and as I've said previously, no one really knows this person--he DOES walk the walk. There's nothing wrong with doing both really, the only problem is if you do the talking then you really have to back it up. So far, he has.

Plus, I do take issue with the idea that he's doing this as some kind of attention grab. Like I said in a previous post, he's spent something like 83 minutes over the last week on interviews, and has turned down dozens of interviews, including from FOX and Jay Leno and a few others. Everyone who meets him says he's genuine. Gonna say this once more, none of us really KNOW him, but I don't think it's fair to criticize a guy for sharing his faith. Not PREACHING his faith, just sharing it. And even then, I mean, what, he says "I'd like to thank my lord and savior jesus christ" at the beginning of postgame interviews. That's...really...it...some people act like he's on the side of street with a billboard and a megaphone screaming at people that they have to convert or burn in hell.

I did not say that he does not do those things. If he does, good for him...I would hope so. What I said is that he should let his works speak for him. Instead of the humble servant he is the...... look at me I am such a big Christian and I have to tell you that all the time.

Again, he's not yelling, and he's certainly not doing anything "all the time."... I just don't see it. He says "I'd like to thank my lord and savior Jesus Christ" at the beginning of postgame interviews. He kneels during games. He doesn't take many interviews, even though he's gotten dozens of offers from major sources. And he has never "yelled" at or about anything...like I said, some people here are acting like he's one of those guys on the street with a board and a megaphone screaming at them to convert or go to hell. And everyone that has met him says he's the humblest guy they've ever met.

All he has done is share his faith. That's it. That's all. And that may just be the problem. It seems that a lot of people are made very uncomfortable by any sort of religious, spiritual affinity. Obviously I don't know you, Mrs. ladypanther, but I do wonder why exactly you think he's yelling at people and doing this for an attention grab, when there is (SO FAR) no evidence to back that up.
