no, it doesn't.. irrelevant really. the analogy (lion reference) was saying accepting losing is not acceptable..

simple and plain.

I guess it's a matter of perspective. Like I said, I don't solely put it on Cam by any means. But, you can't be liable for a loss where you had a 2 score lead after talking up what a winner you are.

Even the player analysts on NFLN said this morning that pros don't care what you won in college or high school. Yes, you have to change the culture if it is one of losing when you're a young franchise player, but today wasn't the showing you want to have after making those statements.

Anyway, this was a light-hearted thread... It's not that serious.

you see all the crazy people jumping from rooftops and think a thread is going to be light-hearted?

it isn't about perception.. it's about one simple fact that he clearly explained: I don't want to see my teammates say "f**k it, maybe we'll get lucky next time" when they should be pissed and ready to fight, even when they lose..

"it is what it is" is not acceptable, that's the message. that's the whole point. Cam isn't sitting in the locker room saying "it is what it is", he's pissed and wants to see a few teammates feel the same..

He better be on top of his sh*t before he volunteers anymore interviews as well. INTs happen, but you can't be the reason that we lost the same week you put something like that out there either.
For the record, I believe that interview occurred when the team was 2-8, it just so happened to be released a couple of days before this face-palm of a game.

I agree with all of that, but wouldn't you describe Cam's approach (coaching staff as well) to the second half as "f*ck it"? That's why I thought it was slightly humorous and brought attention to it. That's all.

Not at all. I don't think he's saying fug it. Quite the contrary. It's the pressure. It gets to him. He makes mistakes because of the pressure.

There's something inherently faulty about the method we went with to transition Cam Newton. Letting a rookie QB sling it at the expense of first learning solid, game managing principles is a recipe for disasters.

It doesn't actually help you to "get the ball" before you are ready to handle it at the NFL level. It's a gradual process and it's supposed to teach that anything you do outside of "proper and correct" game managing is supposed to be a last resort, exception to the rule.

When you play a rookie QB as a restrained game managing QB, you are teaching him good habits that makes the basics a part of his foundation and mechanics. When you put him in a familiar offensive college style offense, it makes it easy for him to transition and feel comfortable, but you don't actually learn what's different at the NFL level and don't learn how to win. You learn as you go, and can develop bad habits, and sometimes really kill you as a developing QB. His inconsistent good performance only re-enforced in his head and perhaps even some of the coach's head a false sense of improvement or achievement. Inconsistency has been the only constant in his playing and development so far.

The margin of error for mistakes is much narrower at the NFL level. The only way I believe a QB gets a good feel for that line is by being a very conservative game manager, performing the basics, over and over and over when entering the league. That begins with even the most simple things, like how to form a huddle, pre-snap. It starts there. How to properly handle a snap. Etc, etc, etc. You start at 0. And with Cam never really being taught a lot of these things, he would have been the perfect candidate for a coach with a SOLID coaching philosophy to teach it to him for the first time in his life.

He was completely raw and ungroomed coming in from the strategic point of view of the game coming into the NFL. It's what you want as an experienced coach. It's actually favorable to even a guy like Luck who already has a certain amount of principles, beliefs, and habits developed because that guy's going to have to renounce some and re-learn some things when coming into the league.

But as far as Cam and the Panthers. It's pressure and game managing. He doesn't have it 14 weeks in to the regular season. Consistency? Not here. Basics(throwing the ball away, short completion for the first down, etc)? Inconsistent. 2 minute drills? Ha. He will never be a good quarterback without getting these basics down. Not even 10 years from now.

only thing I really disagree with is the presumption that Cam isn't going to learn from all those mistakes.. which is why Sanchez still hasn't fully developed after 3 years and why Big Ben did..
