Panthers Offense against the Falcons Defense Statistics

Interesting statistics from cbs sportsline for the panthers vs. Falcons.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/ATL/atlanta-falcons

Offensively Panthers rank higher than the Falcons. Defensively the panthers rank higher against the pass. The obvious area is rush defense. Panthers are abysmal. Falcons top 3.

I expect a high dose of Turner (obvious) first, then Gonzalez over the middle, setting up Munnerlyn who will probably drawn Julio Jones.

If the Panthers can stop Turner and run the ball themselves, they have a chance. If they can't stop Turner, well, not good, as he makes everything else go with Atlanta.

Atlanta Falcons

249.8 (11th) Pass Offense

113.8 (16th) Rush Offense

239.8 (21st) Pass Defense

90.0 (3rd) Rush Defense

Panthers

260.0 (8th) Pass Offense

137.6 (5th) Rush Off.

230.5 (15th) Pass Defense

132.5 (27th) Rush Defense

if they can hold turner down like they did blount panthers have good chance to win today. our pass d sucks on 3rd down so much and in the redzone.....

I don't think we are going to have the luxury of playing 8 in the box like we did against Tampa. Atlanta will go with the spread and we will have to count on the D linemen and the linebackers to be solid. I also doubt we wil try and all out blitz Ryan that much. It makes us vulnerable to the screen and dump off passes. Fortunately Turner is not a big part of their passing offense having caught a total of 11 passes all season.

Atlanta is only giving up 90 yards on the ground but is only running for 113 themselves Meanwhile we are rushing for closer to 150 the last few weeks and giving up around 100 lately. Turner with his groin pull is not going to run all over us. He was still limited in practice on Friday. With highs in the 40s, he will tighten up and won't make it through the game. He also has not run for over 100 yards in the last five weeks. He is going be like blount. Lots of hype but he won't be the factor people think.

agreed^^^.

the weather is really going to be our friend in this game, esp. when you consider that turner only rarely is able to play very well outside and on grass and then they haven't played outside in 2 months....things are lining up pretty nicely.

this will spread our defense thin, but I think that's going to be an issue anyhow.. but I'd like to see Gamble 1on1 with White while Martin helps Munnerlyn double Jones.. that'll put Godfrey to help with the run and TE coverage.. I don't see our LBers doing a decent job of covering Gonzo.. Douglas will have an opportunity to have a field day, but if we can get some zone coverage from one of the LBers on short routes to help Butler, I think it's possible..

our front four will need to get pressure.. I don't think Hardy or Johnson will have a problem with that, but we need some help from our DTs..

I honestly think our run defense took a huge leap with the "injuries" to our two rookie DTs. I'm not saying Neblett, Kearse, Shirly and the other guy are going to come in and completely shut out Turner, but they'll be an improvement. If nothing else Neblett and Kearse are bigger and seem stronger at the point of attack. Shirly's obviously also huge.

I want the team to win this game in the worst way.

The reality is this isn't the Colts, with no threat at QB and we almost let that get away, and it's not Tampa with a QB no one has heard about.

I think a lot is really on the special teams to be, well special, and help the offense and the offense has to absolutely excel and excute no turn-overs; no opportunity missed, no stupid penalities.

I don't see the defense as being strong enough to handle, Turner, Gonzales, Jones and White, unless they have the werewithall to play very disciplined and wrap up.

I hope for the best. I want this team to win at home. Nothing worst than losing to a division opponent at home.
