So, Do We Contain....

everything is riding on the 1st quarter.

if we can surprise them and jump out ahead early in the game by a couple TDs then they'll have to air it out as much as possible to catch up. if that happens, turner becomes largely just a pass blocker and becomes about as useful as a runner as blount did last week.

we've just got to force them out of and away from the run game.

Every week every RB is supposed to run all over us. It's only been true a few times (Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, Kevin Smith, you could count Donald Brown considering how bad he usually is). Turner was having an average or just over average game last time before he got injured, we held AP in check, MJD was efficient but didn't have a huge day, we kept NO's RBs in check too. It could go either way, but Turner tends to feast on us the way Smitty tends to feast on Viking DBs.

I agree about starting out strong.. but that defense in the 2nd half worries me, a lot.

If we do, it will probably be the Falcons/Turner's fault. I can't honestly say, since we have new pieces that are yet to be seen on the DL, but if it isn't any better than a few weeks ago, then we're going to be dealing with a lot of 3rd down conversions.

You don't contain a guy like Turner. Either you stop him or you don't. I don't care how many yards he gets, because he is going to get 20-30 carries a game, so that lends itself to getting a lot of yards. As long as we keep him to under 4 yards per carry, we'll be in good shape. Just have to wrap up on tackles, something we haven't done well with (consistently) since 2008.

If we can make this is a scoring contest maybe we can force Matt Ryan into mistakes. Then again, I don't trust the secondary. Hell if I know.

We force them to make Ryan beat us, and if we can somehow cover Julio Jones, and we have ourselves a win. Gamble is going to put in work on White, I am sure of that.

defense has been playing better lately, but it's been against sucky teams so....i don't know. hopefully after we get ahead we'll just go about trading TDs with them if the D gets too sloppy.

one thing is for sure...we don't need to tap those brakes on offense. none of this ball control clock management stuff. that relies too much on our D not giving up a score quickly and it's also what the falcons are best at.

139 yards, 5.1 ypc and 2 TDs isn't average

fuging THIS! Score 50. That should be the goal each and every week. Get TDs. Don't care how we get 1st downs as long as we do and I don't care how we score, as long as we do. Defense isn't going to be able to hang in there in a low scoring game against MOST teams. Offense, however, can win a shootout with the best of 'em.

Thats kinda what we did vs. Tampa. We did a good job against the run, but we ran up the score like mad and made them throw it. Of course when you are facing Josh Johnson, that usually means that is a W.

But I remember one drive we had in ATL that was over 10 minutes long. Great balance of run/pass right after halftime i think. Beautiful. I hope we can control the clock. That game was so winnable, ended up coming down to Cam's late interception by that D-lineman.

And that was a freak play. Run that play 10 times, it's either an incomplete or a reception on the screen 9 times. Just that 1 time...fatty was able to haul it in. I want a little of both. Control the clock if our defense is playing lights out...but if the defense is letting them burn clock, we score in a hurry and force them to start passing more. I want to see us go a little no huddle at random times. Keep the defense on it's toes. I think defenses would freak the hell out trying to get set up considering all they have to account for on each and every play.

    • What are the matchups, stats and superlatives?   I think this will be a hard game. Bucs are a very balanced team on offense:  7th  in total yards per game, 7th in passing, 10th in rushing. Baker is having another career year even better than last year but despite missing his Godwin and Evans. Bucs defense is poor (29th) particularly passing defense, but we’re also depleted in our receiving with Coker and Sanders likely out. Running Chuba is key but their defense is better against the run. (16th) I think this is likely going to require us to score a lot of points to keep up and hopefully the home field advantage tips the scale in our favor. My other concern is our run defense and being able to stop their rookie study Bucky Irving who the Bucs have shifted more carries to recently and he’s averaging 5.4 ypc and knows how to get into the endzone with 5 TDs so far.
    • This is nonsense and you know it. People will be happy when we are consistently and convincingly winning games against good teams. There are people in here talking down to others after losses and barely beating the terrible NY Giants. If you want to strut around here like only you are a real Panthers fan and rage pooing posts because your jimmies are rustled then hey good luck with all that. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving.
    • Who had the massive meltdown last year? Hope they feel better this year.
