Quinton Coples

Let me be the first to say, I do not think DE is a top need of ours.. however, I think Coples would be a drastic upgrade over Hardy in terms of run stopping and I don't feel we would lose anything in pass rushing.

The only reason why I think Coples is a possibility is because I think the beginning of the draft will look like this:

1. Colts - Luck

2. Rams - Blackmon

3. Vikings - Rieff

4. Browns - Robert Griffin III

5. Jags - Claiborne

6. Redskins - Barkley

7. Eagles - Jeffrey

8. Bucs - Kirkpatrick

9. Cheifs - Landry Jones

So who would be on the board on defense that would fit a need.

Zach Brown, Devon Still, and Quinton Coples. We take one of these guys or trade down.

The more I read about Coples, the better I like him.. the guy's best position is LDE because he sets the edge and is so powerful that he just bull rushes the RT right back into the QB.. he also has a great rip move and decent swim move. Here is a scouting report:

Right now, I don't think Devon Still is a Top10 pick, although that could change.. and I don't really like the idea of taking an OLB in the Top10 because they are so easy to find in later rounds.

I could see us taking Quinton Coples and a CB in the 2nd like Chase Minnifield/Hosley/Gilmore. This would not be my ideal situation, but I can see it as a possibility if we end up picking at #10ish.

We should trade down and take Devon Still. As for the DE position, Mario Williams could be available. (In the trade down, with the extra pick, we could get Melvin Ingram) Imagine our d-line with Mario Williams, Devon Still, Melvin Ingram, and Charles Johnson.:willy_nilly:

if claiborne is not there I see us trying to trade down to add a second round pick. Unless of course we stay with the 4-3 (i hope not) but then couples or even better still would be a good option!

Rivera said we are keeping our base defense at 4-3, but going to give additional 3-4 looks.. so a multi-purpose player like Coples whom can play both techniques would be invaluable I suppose.

I'm not a big fan of Coples. I watched a good bit of UNC's games this year and he never popped off the screen. I agree he has a lot of talent, he just doesn't pass the eyeball test.

Plus, he got 4 of his 7.5 sacks against James Madison and Duke. Disappears in big games.

Yes for this year but Rivera and the DC said that they were forced to run the 4-3 because of the lack of training camp an oat's and because of the loss of key personnel i fully except the opposite to be the case next year with a base 3-4 defense and 4-3 looks!

Melvin Ingram isn't much of a DT. He only moves inside for pass rushing situations to have him, Jadeveon Clowney, and Devin Taylor all rushing the QB. He's big enough to do that in college but wouldn't be able to in the NFL. He is a tremendous DE who is an all-around playmaker though. I would love to have him but he is just not at a position of need. The only reason we should take Ingram is if they think they could mold him into an OLB which is possible but probably stretching it. He is a lot like Dwight Freeney.

That is good insight.

I am not sure about that. Fua is not a 3-4 dlineman.. McClain might be able to play the 5 tech, but not sure... I don't think we waste a 3rd rounder on Fua if we plan on switching to the 34.
