Marvez on the 10 worst teams in the league

Recommended Posts

It must be me but I don't know that we need to go wildly spending on the defense. We need to find a great LB to replace Davis when/if he goes down, we need to find a second corner who can be as solid as Gamble, and we need a 3 technique DT. When our IRed players get healthy next year we will have taken care of the linebacker position and the nose tackle with the exception of the Sam. And ironically our depth issue won't be as big a concern given that many of the current starters will go back to rotational positions next year when our starters return. Between a few free agents and the draft, we should find who we need to fill in the holes.

We need a starting caliber FS (Martin isn't cutting it) and backup safety, maybe 2 backup safeties. Starting caliber CB and OLB as well as a couple DTs. We're going to fill all of that through the draft?

I don't get the obsession with Hurney, there's not a GM out there without his share of big whiffs, or ones that luck into great picks. Or are we going to consider Mike Brown a genius because he managed to hit on Green and Dalton, and swindle Oakland?

Hurney's much better than your average NFL GM, and now that Rivera has a hand in picking talent we may find more draft gems over the years.

As far as big trades or free agent deals, we need to be closer to knowing exactly which pieces we need to put us over the top before investing tons of money into veteran help.

people see what he tried to do for Fox and take their anger out on Hurney.. he was trying to help a friend save his job. Hurney's drafts are better than most..

word is Jordan Senn is going to get a shot at starting next year.. if that's the case, Rivera may seem to think we have our starting LBers on the team already in Anderson, Beason, and Senn...

he's talking about upgrading, meaning bringing in free agents. what big money did we spend on free agents this year to be considered a "wild offseason"?

The Panthers spent an assload signing their free agents. Kalil, Johnson, and Williams were all upper tier free agents in the league.

Kalil is the highest paid center in the NFL

Williams is a top 2 or 3 paid RB

Beason is the highest paid MLB as of this past offseason

Johsnon is the highest paid Panther

It's pretty straight forward stuff and was discussed quite a bit on here this past offseason.

I can agree with you to a point, but you are over reacting a little! I agree we need a starting caliber FS, but Martin is solid depth! It would be cool to see what Hogan can do before we are wasting a First rd pick on a CB.Couple DT's? You might get one if the staff has doubts about Ron!

And Senn should get a shot at the starting job next year and if he doesn't win then I'm loving our depth! But come the offseason the staff has to add some defensive playmakers. I'm cool with this season being about finding guys that are solid and want to play, but we need that exceptional talent somewhere in our defense that can help us dominate the turnover battle!

Exactly.

We need Beason and Edwards back healthy.

We need either Davis back or a nice LB addition.

We need to draft Mo Claiborne from LSU to start opposite Gamble.

Other than that, the defense will be fine.

We are only a bad team this year because half our starters are gone on defense. We will be dramatically improved when they come back. However we need to get some quality depth. I wouldn't mind us drafting a ball hawk safety if one is available in the draft. I like Martin and Godfrey a lot but if we could land a potential Ed Reed that would give the defense the edge it needs.

So if Martin isn't cutting it, he serves as the backup and we find a guy in the draft or free agency. We have other safeties that can be backups. We need a CB although it is unclear whether with Butler and Hogan, we might already have them on staff. Agree we need a Sam and a 3 technique DT. If we use our draft primarily on defense we should get instant starters with our first and second picks hopefully at 2 of these spots so by my list we might need 2 FAs to fill the list. That assumes that picks 3 through 7 can't fill in or start. Honestly that doesn't sound like wild spending.

Meh I can see where the writer is coming from but still. Do I think were in the bottom 15 of the NFL yes but not bottom 10. Yeah I know it's like comparing poo with more poo but I don't see us as bottom 10.

He took the ten worst records in the NFL. The Panthers are in that bottom ten. It is what it is.

nah i've wanted him gone, but that should be the last one for JR should it happen. I mean how many more big mistakes he's got to make for JR to fire him if Hurney does that and isn't fired? I can't see how JR can justify not firing him after that.

I would have thought Hurney would have been gone before Kasey:eek:
