Chris Paul Trade Discussion

Not sure it made them worse for the immediate future. Paul would help Bynum's game greatly. And I am sure Kobe would be highly motivated with CP3 next to him.

NOH did get a great deal out of it considering Paul was probably gone after this season.

Only reason I say that:

Bynum can't stay healthy and they have no other frontcourt. Nothing left of value to try and get Howard with. Can't win without big men.

Not entirely true, they have pretty large trade exceptions that would have been extremely attractive to Orlando, and given L.A. the ability to absorb Turk's atrocious contract....

Players should be able to decide where they go when they are FREE AGENTS.

Players shouldn't be able to dictate to try and get the max salary (which is designed for teams retaining their own talent) AND get to pick where they want to play on top of that.

That's players wanting their cake and eating it too. Good for Stern for putting his foot down.

If Paul wants to sign in LA so badly he can -- when he's a UFA.

Don't expect the Hornets, which are owned by 29 other owners, to bend over backwards to help Paul go where ever he wants. That's not the right of any player to expect that.

So he walks for free and NO is left butt hurt like Cleveland and Toronto because they got absolutely nothing for him... Yep that's smart... If I was a NO fan and this happens I would be pissed.

so the owners can have their cake and eat it to by agreeing to a CBA without a hard salary cap so the $'s can start flowing in again, but when it's the players wanting to play for a contender and said contender working out a VERY fair deal to make that happen it's a no-no???

But do players really decided where they go when they are traded.

I know they can ask for a trade but they really can't asked to be traded to a certain team. They can have preferences, but it takes 2 teams to trade.

All said player has to say is "Nope, I will NOT sign an extension". No sane team is gonna trade for a one year rental.

Right, that's what happened with Melo.

But I guess what I am saying is, teams don't have to make that trade. NOH can stand pat keep players like that on their team. NOH wanted to make this trade because they wanted something in return. It's not totally in the control of the players hand.

i agree NOH is getting boned. Tbh they are pretty stupid for even doing all of this. I'd take Rondo from the Celtics in a swap. But Rondo would probably do the same thing as the rest and cry about it. The NBA is fuged. It's a joke, It's a sham, the WWE is more real than this garbage. There's a reason why it is the worst big sport and why they are losing soooooo much money.

i think one thing lost in all this cp3 to the lakers mess is that since the league(28 owners minus LA & NO) basically own the hornets, i doubt you get a majority of them to approve a deal with or without stern. you really think the knicks, mavs & heat are going to reload the lakers much less the small market teams?

sheridanhoops Chris Sheridan

I'm told there is a school of thought in informed circles that Stern vetoed C.Paul trade because a D.Howard-to-LA trade was coming up next.

Don't agree on a fuging CBA without a hard cap then idiots...

Commissioner,

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.

Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.

I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).

I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.

I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Dan G.
