Chris Paul Trade Discussion

I think the other owners, ala Gilbert in Cleveland, say that it should go to a vote by the other owners of league. I guess since the league is made up of 29 owners then there are 29 owners of the hornets. Also, one could argue that it is a conflict of interest for the league to even own the hornets and they should be sold or contracted. IMO.

I agree it's a conflict of interest. But by all accounts, the Hornets were getting a very good return for CP3. The veto makes no sense, because the trade is setting NO up for a quicker rebound from losing CP3 then letting him walk will. The trade would have allowed NO to be competitive much sooner with the pieces they were acquiring, now they will be the new Cleveland Cavaliers....

I think they have to let this trade go through at this point... I don't like the idea of the big markets getting all the elite players, but in this case there is no other alternative, Paul is going to walk when the season is over and then the Hornets will have nothing to show for it.

I believe it will go through because Paul is going to seek out legal action. The league doesn't need that on the first day back in business. I could be wrong, but I think it will go through later today (though an extra draft pick will probably go NO way so they can say the trade had to be amended)....

Doesnt look good for the team with the highest payroll ALREADY in the league once again taking one of the sorriest and least visible teams best player. To you folks hollaring Miami, theyre under the cap, their payroll is nowhere close to the Lakers. LA just pays the luxury tax every year because they bring in bread. 2 weeks after the lockout, they're at it again. LOL. Stern had to do something.

The worst part about this whole thing is, its the best possible scenario for New Orleans. Look at what they got in return...4 players (3 probable starts, 1 bench) and picks (was it 2 or was it just 1? dont remember).

The other scenario? The one that plays out if this reversal stands? CP3 stays with NO this year and leaves. Leaving NO with NOTHING. Pretty much the beginning of the end of the franchise.

This is why the NBA needed a hard cap, the luxury tax is a joke to the team like the Lakers - it's worth every cent to them.

This is what makes the NFL so great, the smallest market team (by far) is the reigning SB champion, it would be like the Bucks winning the finals.

I will continue to love and support the Bobcats 100%, but it's hard when you know that you have no legitimate shot at a championship barring a miracle.

This trade will go through....question is when. You can't block a trade that abides by all CBA rules just because the small market owners are having their time of the month....if they wanted to stop stuff like this from happening they shouldn't have ratified the CBA. The Dan Gilbert's and Michael Jordan's of the NBA have nobody to blame but themselves when a Carmelo goes to NY, a CP3 goes to L.A. or Dwight goes to NJ....

As one rival executive with strong ties to the league office said, “Stern cared about two things: selling that franchise for the best possible price and showing the players that they weren’t going to dictate where teams could trade them. But now, there’s no way that the league can allow Chris Paul to be traded at all; otherwise, Stern is basically deciding where one of the top players in the league is going versus having any fair process.”

Officials from New Orleans, Houston and Los Angeles were stunned Thursday night. The killed trade had ripple effects everywhere in free agency and potential trades, pushing the market into paralysis on the eve of training camps opening Friday.

“We were all told by the league he was a tradeable player, and now they’re saying that Dell doesn’t have the authority to make the trade?” said an NBA executive who had periodic talks with New Orleans throughout the process. “Now they’re saying that Dell is an idiot, that he can’t do his job. [Expletive] this whole thing. David’s drunk on power, and he doesn’t give a [expletive] about the players, and he doesn’t give a [expletive] about the hundreds of hours the teams put in to make that deal.

“How do the Lakers explain this to Odom? How does Houston deal with the guys it just tried to trade? Scola and Martin are going to be pissed at them, and who knows how long that takes to get over? Explain to me how the league kills this Pau Gasol deal, but allows for Pau Gasol?

“To me, this makes the league feel like it’s rigged, that Stern just does whatever Stern wants to do. He’s messed up the competitive balance of this league a lot worse by killing the deal because you’ve completely destroyed the planning that New Orleans and Houston did and left them in shambles over this. I’ve never been so discouraged about this league, never so down.

“I mean, come on: Chris Paul is leaving New Orleans in 66 games. He’s gone. And what’s Dell Demps, and that franchise, going to have to show for it?”

Stern is a complete joke. This time next year the Hornets will not have CP3 and have zero to show for it. 20 wins here they come.

This would be a good trade for all 3 teams, pull your head out of your ass Stern.

AlexKennedyNBA Alex Kennedy

I've talked to a number of agents today. They all believe that David Stern will eventually allow the CP3 trade to go through. We'll see.

Would only be right after they let all the players names involved get leaked....ruins team chemistry to have guys coming back who weren't important enough to keep. Absolute mess right now that HAS to be resolved....
