Great Cam interview with ESPN Magazine

I won't lie he said some great things and some things that can definitely get him looked at in a weird manner. i.e. "A house where losing is accepted" ... We may have been losing and what not but I doubt that this franchise just rests on their laurels and "accepts" losing

Many players were.

Why the heck do you think Smitty was ready to walk?

That's easy to say when you don't actually allow it to be read by most people. Looks to me like people who are more realistic, and more objective are actually quite favored. Take TRD's posts for example. And most of the time you go around and regurgitate what I say anyway 2-3 months later.

The truth hurts, but I think everyone would at least like to know it.

And in the blink of an eye another alt appears. Jeebus, dude... how pathetically low can you go?

Another alt sacrificed on the alter of pffl's epic butthurtness...

Sad.

For those of you that can't watch the video...

Stevland Wilson: Coming into the league there were a lot of critics, a lot of people who had a lot negative things about your game and how it would translate to the NFL, how were you feeling at that time?

Cam Newton: I want to throw this out, this is the first national interview I've done, due to I felt like I was scared. People can say whatever they want about a particular athlete, but you take the mic away from the athlete, but everybody else has the mic. You put that person up on a pinnacle and you analyze them from so many different areas, and it's like that person can't say anything because if that person does, it's like he's retaliating or he's this particular person or he's a bad person, when it's kind of unfair, but that's the life we live.

SW: What do you want to say to those critics?

CN: I really don't... just sit back and watch the show. I can't worry about what they do. I'm the type of person that you know, someone might say look at that mountain up there, you can't do it, and I'm going to say you stay right here and I'm going to be walking up to the top, and when I get to the top I'm going to ask down, "What you say?"

SW: There was never a doubt in your mind that you could be successful as a rookie?

CN: Absolutely not.

SW: What are the emotions after a game when you have played really well and your team losses?

CN: I teased and asked somebody this the other day, what happens when you take a lion out of the safari and try to make it a house pet? He said, what are you trying to say? that isn't going to happen. And I said exactly, I'm that lion. The house I'm in is somewhat of a tarnished house where losing is accepted, but I'm trying to change that, whether I have to turn that house into a safari, or I'm gonna have to get out of that house. Now I'm not saying, hear me out, I'm not saying I'm trying to lead this place, I'm just trying to get everybody on my level. When you lose and you feel like you've done everything you could have done to succeed or this particular play and it doesn't happen it affects me this amount *Cam holds hand up to head* and then you look at somebody else and look across the room or across the bench and you see somebody else and they messed up and they like pssh ah man we get it the next play. Are you serious? How many times is it going to be we gonna get it next time? How many times until it's the last play of the game??

SW: You're a competitor. Do you look around the league at other quarterbacks? Other rookie quarterbacks, like Andy Dalton? Do you compare yourself to them?

CM: I'm not the kinda person to say dog-gone, Andy got this, Andy got that, I'm the person to say man, Andy ballin' over there, guess I gotta step level up, step my game play up, and rise to the occasion. It makes me smile and say, "Well my man just put up 270 against so and so, guess I gotta go for 280!" I want to be the symbol of success in this league. I think the person that is at the peak of his game is Aaron Rodgers. I want to be the Aaron Rodgers of the game in 5 years. I don't believe in luck, I don't believe that the stars align and that's why you threw a particular touchdown or made a guy miss. It's all about preparation. If you don't prepare for the game, it's going to show. You going to get exposed, especially in this league, since it's about finding your opponent's tendencies and capitalizing on that.

SW: What's the most important thing someone has said to you on this journey?

CN: Whatever you decide to do, just be happy with it and what that means to me is that I play football and football is not a job to me, it's my life. I'm a quarterback in the NFL, and I'm getting paid to do it... Whaat?

dunno, players seem to love him, so maybe whatever he's doing is working and maybe what he's saying isn't the problem you perceive it to be.

I do think it's clear from things he says and things others say that they know the offense isn't perfect, but I also know it's painfully obvious to the entire team, the coaches especially, how poor our defense had been playing. Rivera calls them out in his press conferences regularly and McD had a huge meeting with just the D to bitch them out and tell them they had to start playing at the level of the offense.

Why would I be butthurt? I'm not the one trying to shut others up for speaking the truth.

I didn't believe in Clausen getting us a winning season.

I didn't believe drafting Cam Newton would end up in a winning season.

I continue to be correct that offensive efficiency is the main reason we are losing as I have said from the second game and the quarterback is always going to have the largest effect on that.

I continue to be correct in that turnovers are the biggest mistakes we make that are costing us games.

And I continue to be right in that people can't handle any of these truths as obvious as it is by the constant bans.

What possible reason do I have to be butt hurt when in reality every time my account is banned just basically confirms how accurate I have been in everything I have said? I get banned cause I'm right too much.

... Dude you make several new alts a week (sometimes a day) to babble the same stuff over & over.

Its the internet equivalent of calling up your ex & yelling "*****! You ruined my life!" & thinking she hung up because she can't handle the truth.

Only guys I've seen do this is the ones who were butthurt.

Unless Smith has changed his mind in the last few days... he just gave an interview where he remarked that even when winning a good receiver wants his and gets upset when he isn't part of the winning process. He's not gonna demand a trade or whatever, but that's how it goes with that kind of player.

As to our defense...there's a reason you're like the only person who thinks our defense is average. Even our coaches are railing against them (well, not this last week anyway, haha). One day maybe the Panthers will hire you, but until then, I'm going to go with what the coaches think, what the players think, what most fans think, and most importantly, what I see by watching the games.

Our offense isn't the most efficient but our defense is downright abysmal... If you look at the number of drives our offense has, we're actually quite efficient, among the best in the NFL. Let's not count yards here, because as you say those aren't that important, points are what matters. So let's look at points per drive - there, Carolina ranks 8th on offense but 32nd on defense. That's a huge disparity. 25 teams have had more drives on offense than us! That's huge.

You are right, I am smarter than this argument, but I keep having it anyway. I used to think you were, too. Come on man. Nobody (ok, some are, but let's ignore them for a second) is saying Cam is playing perfect in general, that our offense has no room to grow or makes no mistakes. But it's plain that our defense is unable to stop a decent offense at any reliable rate.

I don't think Smith does anymore. At least not as much as in the beginning. His comments recently about quarterbacks may have just been speaking the truth, but they were also a message to the media and the fans who keep regurgitating the same craziness Cam Newton's carrying this team. It was a smooth back handed put-down sending the message, "hey Cam isn't poo yet".

You keep on and on about the defense after how many times I have showed you proof, facts and stats that go against everything you keep saying. Our defense is a direct result of offensive efficiency. When our offense is efficient we allow less than 20 points per game. For our offense to be efficient we have to play a HORRIBLE offense.

Connect the dots for Christ's sake mav. You are freaking smarter than this.

Does our defense have issues? Yes.

Is our defense keeping us from winning? Not at all. The inefficiency of our offense does.

What position is primarily responsible for having an efficient offense? Your quarterback. The position that's primarily responsible for turnovers of any kind.

if you don't watch/know football, PLEASE don't talk about it
