The Bullying Issue

My son was being picked on by another kid in his class...one that was always in trouble. Not physical bullying, but name calling and teasing.

He called my son a nerd.

He came home and I could tell that something was bothering him. I pressed himuntil he finally told me what happened. My wife looked at me wondering how I was going to handle it.

I proceeded to tell my son that he WAS a nerd. And that coming from my gene pool, he never stood a chance (any of you that know me from the TG's know just how true that statement is). At that point, I explained that the kids definition of a nerd was someone who respected others, respected their elders, got good grades in school, etc... and that there was NOTHING wrong with that. Never change who you are for someone else.

I told him the next time he called him a nerd to say....."I might be a nerd, but that's OK. Because you will be cutting my grass one day". I then told him to interrupt the kid as soon as he started to say anything and say"And NO, I don't want fries with that"....then turn and walk away.

Two days later I got an e-mail from his teacher telling me that she witnessed the kid starting to pick on my son. Before she could intervene, my son did exactly what I told him to do. The other kid was so stunned that he did not know what to do and his buddies started laughing at him. The situation was completely stopped.

His teacher said it was the funniest and best handling of a situation like this that she had ever seen. She said it was great.

awww he is so not a nerd. he is going to be super cute when he's older.

let's just hope he doesn't put down Jager like his daddy does :D

Teaching kids that violence doesn't solve anything is part of the problem.

I was bullied mercilessly by some of the kids in my neighborhood. Lasted for years. Right up until I went home crying one day and my old man got fed up with it. Told me if I wasn't going to stand up for myself he wasn't either. Told me to pick the biggest one, break his nose, and take the ensuing ass whooping like a man and it would stop.

Three days later I picked the second biggest on (I was scared but not stupid) and broke his nose with a history book in the lunch room. Took the 3 day suspension and never again had to take an ass whooping at school or in the neighborhood.

Violence stopped it when nothing else would. Sometimes you just gotta speak the bully's language.

It worked for my son, too.

When we came back to North Carolina, during his very first day of school, two kids tried to team up against him. My son only got one of them, but he did send the other one crying for the teacher. Two other kids tried to gang up on him a few months later, and this time, he did get both of them. Martial Arts are worth the money.

But when an older female started bullying him, he didn't know what to do. He knew he couldn't hit her. He handled it the right way be telling me and people at school. He says she hasn't bothered him in months.

yeah... you try getting in front of class with a woodie.

back then, i tried to hide it. nowadays, i thrust my hips out slightly to make it look bigger.

you try being one of the tallest for your age...and the first one in your grade to get boobs and start wearing a bra..along with bleeding out of your southern region

Lamont Turner..I will never forget..I was 11 "damn girl you got some big titties"...

you couldn't pay me enough to go back to being that age again

I've been on both ends of bullying, either way it's not fun.

I was told by different adults different things to do like, if you get into a fight you'd better win or you're going to get your ass beat when you get home. Or, just tell the teacher, Yeah, telling the teacher is really going to stop the bullying. The teacher just tells you to not tattle on others and then you get even more bullied for telling. I went from being bullied in elementary school to being the bully in middle school to both in high school.

I worry about my daughter because she's in a small private school now with only 20 students total, 4:1 student-teacher ratio. She'll be going back to public school soon as a middle schooler. She wears glasses & braces, is dyslexic, is a tomboy, and is hitting puberty early and she gets embarrassed easily. Thank God she's not one of those ugly kids. Every time I think about someone fuging with her, I feel this rage welling up inside of me.

Once, in French class, I got called to the board. But it wouldn't go into my waistband. I stammered and tried to delay. Teacher said Get to the board NOW!!! So i had to stand up and quickly as I could I did a manual adjustment. But it was too late. :o

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
