The Bullying Issue

My son was bullied in middle school until he stood up for himself and went off on the guy. 3 day suspension but it was worth it.

Girls take bullying to a whole new level of meanness. I don't even want to think about what my daughter's been through.

girls are horribly mean..I still don't like many of them :)

On another note: Its awesome now when you see all the kids who gave you a hard time back in middle school when you check out at Wal-Mart and they are scanning or bagging your items. Or when you see how fat/gross/unsuccessful they are these days and get a teeny bit of satisfaction from that.

I had a kid that bullied me in 9-10 grade. If I want to find him now, I just look him up on NC offender search. :)

I was bullied until 10th grade, after a year of weight lifting and playing football. Being bigger than most kids has it's advantages. Prior to that, I was the "fug you, buddy" kind of guy when it came to bullies. Never threw a punch. Got punched plenty. 10th grade hit, dude smacked me and called me a bitch, I knocked his ass out with a little jab-hook combo.

It takes confidence. My goal as a future parent is if I have a little boy, teach him how to defend himself (along the lines of what Biscuit said). Now, if I have a little girl, I will defend her myself till the day I die. If I have both, problem solved, brother will come to the rescue (I'll be damned sure of that).

Bullying is worse because of the internet and cell phones, but at the end of the day, it is no different than it was 15 years ago. The ones bullied the most, in my experience, have pacifist parents that tell them to strictly avoid conflict and never tell them it is OK after a certain point to take up for themselves. The ONLY way to stop a bully is to either know about the bully's personal life and embarrass them in front of everybody or to kick their ass. Most kids don't know how to do either. I've always believed teaching your son to fight is important, because self-defense is key in surviving physical bullying.

When it comes to verbal bullying, again, you revert to embarrassment (verbal) and/or intellectual decimation. Ignorance works at times, but for the persistent bully, they see it as a green light to keep doing it.

This is all just my opinion though.

asshole parents give birth to asshole kids. Its a fact of life. My kids have been bullied once so far, had a chat with his dad who was also an asshole. The situation was left that if that kid put one more finger on any of my kids I would come over and choke his dad in front of him. No problems since.

When your kids get bullied, you should just bring him to kitten photoshoot and give him the old Lion King all this will be yours one day speech. Sure as hell would make me give a fug less about a bully.
