How bout that run D!

^ Title. Everything went better than expected..

Sidenote: didn't see Fua on the field much, maybe that's a good thing.

Wasn't he out the entire game?

Not sure if we were neglecting the pass game to focus on the run, or our run D has bulked up with Neblett in the middle. Definitely deserves a chance to start regardless.

With Freeman out, we could afford to play eight in the box the whole game.

Don't know that I take too much encouragement out of this. Happy we won though.

even with freeman in their run game has looked like poo all year.

people around here were hyping up blount too much heading into the game when he hasn't really been a factor much at all...esp. in their passing game and in 3rd and 4th downs.

until we can do it against a team with a real run game my excitement is going to be a bit hampered.

i am glad that we limited mistakes this game and that our offense kept their foot on the gas the whole way. we need that to happen more.

Having a terrible season with a ton of injuries can pay off as long as you keep as many of the stopgaps that got the snaps by default as backups. You just cannot beat experience when it comes to defense in this "quarterback era" NFL of today.

I am anxious to see how or if we can capitalize off of this year by retaining some experienced depth. This D is not solid by far and we got a break today like 55 said but there is some budding talent that I would like to see blossom in Charlotte.

Yes, I did NOT expect us to hold Blount like we did. GREAT JOB!

Also, I think that other DT rookie completely outplayed Fua. Him and Neblet should probably get a chance at rotation, and Fua should find his way on the bench and possibly out...

    • Qbs aren't defined by physical abilities. Brady, Brees, Manning, Montana, Warner,.....doesn't seem to correlate.

    • If we are going to spend the money anyway, maybe the signing is not as bad as it seems.  Mays outperformed Corbett (before his injury and if you go back to last year, Corbett has been below average) and then Christensen took the job and Mays quickly took it from him and never looked back.  He could use improvement reaching to the next level (LBs) but picking up stunts and blitzes---he was surprisingly good.  Run blocking needs some work, but he is 25.  Corbett, in my view, should be G/C depth and if Mays steps back, he is there.  Mays should start because this team is building for the future and 30 year old players are not building blocks.  We shall see.  That is how I think about it, but there are many factors we do not know. Having said that, I like what Zavala is doing, and I do not want to bring in someone who would take opportunities away from him.  Zavala was really good at RG down the stretch, and in limited duty, was awesome. In fact, we have a guard from the PS who played briefly and did well, but he only played a few plays.  He is 25 and I recall that fans of his former team were upset when we signed him.   Maybe as the backup center only (Corbett).  You need 2 centers to run practices efficiently.  I cannot say enough about the OL coaches on this staff.  What they have done is overshadowed by the Lewis / Hunt signing.  Mays, Ekwonu, Zavala--impressive growth.
