well in 09 our offense is pretty damn solid on paper, biggest thing were missing is a ricky prohel type # 3 or a t.e. who can run after the catch.. as for d-fense if we get a good shut down corner or if marshall can develop in to that, were only 1 or 2 d-lineman away from being an excellent d-fense as well..so no i expect great things for this team in 09

I'm so sick of people pretending that there was nobody we could have signed or traded for this offseason. Do the names Kyle Boller, Matt Cassel, Jay Cutler, Torry Holt, Marvin Harrison, Jason Taylor, Terrell Owens, TJ Houshmanzadeh, Mike Goff, Albert Haynesworth, Jovan Haye, Rocky Bernard, Chris Canty, Brian Dawkins, and Bryant McFadden mean anything to you?

And I'm not even counting players like Orlando Pace or Bart Scott or Matt Birk that play positions that we're actually fine at.

Now you can list all the reasons why each of these players would be horrible fits here, but don't pretend that there weren't/aren't high-caliber players out there at positions that we're sorely lacking at. That's Marty Hurney spin nonsense.

Hard to sign people when you don't have money. Is TJ, Holt or Harrison good down field blockers????? Our Wr need to be able to do that because were going to run first. Boller???????? Cassel???????? Cutler????????? We have a starting QB, not going to change........ The team thinks there set at Safety (I agree) Corner, get one in the draft on the cheap side that has a career in front of them not behind them......... Geezzz just sign someone to sign someone mentality is retarded.

Its not about faith, its about attitude.

I pray we deal Pep, have a good draft day, and then sign some guys after the post draft cuts to fill holes.

We need to get motivated and active, if not this offseason will pass us by and we will be left wanting.

I am sure we will do some of the aboved mentioned, its just terrible watching our hands being tied because of the Peppers situation.

Worse case what happens?

We CANT deal Pep, he stays and we are cash strapped to even sign our draft picks.

Its all or nothing this offseason, and thats a bad place for ANY team to be in.

Jarrett has the potential to be that clutch #3 guy.

Sorry for you, cause they'll be doing that soon. Probably regardless of what happens with peppers. He'll probably get a 3 year extension.

You are right, the one thing people either don't understand or choose not to is that the Panther Organization has to much CLASS to let a player go because he had a bad, a bad season, or a bad 3 seasons. Remember how Dan Morgan was pretty much done after the Panthers Super Bowl game in 2004, and the Panthers kept him around until 2007 I believe? And also we had to let Moose go because we didn't have enough money to sign him back, but then we went out and got him last year. The Panthers Organization simply has two much class to do what other teams do such as Philadelphia, Dallas, Denver, Washington, and others on how they handle player personal problem, and the way they are handling the Julius Peppers situation just backs up what I am saying, there are no hard feelings between the organization with Peppers. The Panthers want what is best for their organization but also, what is best for their PLAYERS, and former PLAYERS (Example: Signed Stephen Davis who played more games with Washington than he did with the Panthers, but wanted to retire with the Panthers, so he asked the Panthers to sign him to a limited contract just so he could retire as a Panther, Stephen Davis said " The Carolina Panthers are the classiest team he had played for and wanted to retire as a Panther.)" The Panthers simply care about their organization more than most teams or more than any team in the NFL.

Do the names Kyle Boller

why would we sign another backup qb? we already have two promising ones on the roster.

Matt Cassel

it's pretty obvious pioli had an in with the patriots organization, and would you really be willing to give up what the chiefs did for someone who is pretty comparable to jake delhomme? do you really want a team with the best RB duo and arguably offensive line in the league to sign a QB that can't play under center?

Jay Cutler

with the first round pick the panthers didn't have?

Torry Holt

still hasn't been signed by anyone.

Marvin Harrison

still hasn't been signed by anyone

Jason Taylor

still hasn't been signed by anyone

Terrell Owens

lol

TJ Houshmanzadeh

you mean to tell me WR is a big enough need that we should pay a 30 year old 40 million over 5 years?

Mike Goff

33 and sucked last year

Albert Haynesworth

lol

Jovan Haye

16 mil is a lot for a backup DT

Rocky Bernard

wanted to play in nyc

Chris Canty

yet again, 42 million dollar player. do you have any concept of how salary caps work?

Brian Dawkins

wouldn't even start

Bryant McFadden

why spend that much money when they have a capable number 2 corner?

And I'm not even counting players like Orlando Pace

can barely walk

or Bart Scott

yeah why didn't we sign a 3-4 OLB

or Matt Birk

can barely walk

Now you can list all the reasons why each of these players would be horrible fits here, but don't pretend that there weren't/aren't high-caliber players out there at positions that we're sorely lacking at. That's Marty Hurney spin nonsense.

no one is pretending there is not. however, with all of the free agents you listed, the negatives outweigh the potential gains, they are not cost effective, they're old and got overpaid, or they just don't make any sense here at all. This isn't madden. schemes matter. players matter. size matters.

yeah, it's cool when your team signs someone and you get to go nuts talking about how he's the missing piece and that you're super bowl bound (see Dimbee or SaintJ) but it's irritating when low information fans throw a hissy fit about not doing anything. the organization can't do anything until they trade away peppers, and that will most likely not happen until the day of the draft.

speaking of which, there is the draft, then free agency after the draft, then another whole round of cuts for the panthers to pick and choose from.

don't get pissy because you don't understand the business of the nfl.

Amen to that and half the players he mentioned are not even needs.
