Point Guards

DJ Augustin

Coming off his best year, Augustin is primarily a shooting PG. But his assist numbers have been rising since he has entered the league. With the drafting of Kemba Walker, does it make it Augustin expendable in coming years?

Kemba "EZ Pass" Walker

Kemba enters his rookie year with great expectations. The majority feel he will soon unseat DJ as the starter at the point position. Can DJ and Kemba play together or will they be a liability on defense?

Shooting Guards

Gerald Henderson

Coming off an injury and replacing Stephen Jackson, Henderson will have to work hard to match Jackson's production. He is obviously a lot younger than Jackson and has room to grow. He has an opportunity to solidify his spot as the starting SG for years to come. Can he average 15 or more points per game in this upcoming year?

Matt Carroll

Matt Carrol is a truly a hard worker but lacks the athleticism and quickness to be a factor on defense. He has great form on his shot but really has no game outside of spot up shooting. He is a fan favorite but doe he do enough to warrant extended playing time?

Smal Forwards

Corey Maggette

A seasoned veteran that will hopefully add scoring. He has the potential to be the Bobcats leader in scoring but his career is winding down. Tough to replace Crash in energy and production but Maggette will have to do for now, as SF might be top priority in next years draft.

Dante Cunningham

Coming off a marijuana possession charge, Cunningham might not be in the best of graces in the eyes of the Bobcats. He is your prototypical Larry Brown type player with his hard nose play and defense. Under Silas he'll be asked to shoot more, something that Cunningham isn't necessarily used to.

Eduardo Najera

Not really a factor and shouldn't see much playing time. He likes to take 3s but doesn't offer enough to be seeing the court that often.

Power Forwards

Boris Diaw

A SF/PF hybrid, Diaw is very skilled and loves to get others involved. He has caught a lot of slack over the years with Charlotte but I feel he is under appreciated.

Tyrus "T-Time"Thomas

If he is under control, he is very effective. He is an athletic freak and is force on the defensive side. On offense, he does't have too much of a back to the basket game but he is money from the elbow.

DJ White

A late addition to the team but fairly productive. He is different from Diaw and Thomas in that he spend most of his time close to the basket.

Centers

Kwame Brown

Not on the team per se, but I do think he will be resigned as Kwame seems to like it here. He has made improvements throughout the year, but not someone you can rely on. He has trouble catching the ball and you have to pray for him to make a FT.

Bismack Biyombo

Still a dispute with his Spanish team and it could hinder his ability to play straight away with the Bobcats. He is athletic freak and defense is his game. His offensive game needs some work and it might take some time. Pair him with Tyrus and that's one stout front court defensively.

DeSagana Diop

Technically speaking still on our team but many wonder if the amnesty clause will be used. But with the lack of centers we have, it might not be the best idea. I learned that Diop will still be paid his salary if we use the amnesty clause on him. Although he won't count towards our cap, we shouldn't use it unless we have viable replacement.

*Not sure how much noise we will make in FA, but the positions that can use the most improvement are Center and Small Forward. Also, we could always use a bigger 3rd PG.

*Could be a long year, but be happy that we have a young core and working for the future.

I guess we can count Najera as a 3 to balance out the roster, but that dude is a 4. He couldn't guard one 3 in the NBA. Dante is a 3/4 tweener also. IMO we have to sign another 3 and a center (probably Kwame).

I don't think we will amnesty Diop just because we need centers. The argument can be made we can't count on him anyways because he his injury prone, but if we aren't gonna be major players in FA and we have to pay his salary anyway, what is the point in using the amnesty clause right now?

Have you seen his contract? Dude is as good as gone.

Yeah but who are you gonna replace him with in the FA department? Diop is still gonna get paid regardless of if we use the amnesty clause. We would have to pay Diop plus a FA center. I'm not sure our front office would want to do that.

Maybe. The thing is if we amnesty Diop we have to sign at least 2 centers and still pay Diop. I feel sure Kwame will be one of the two we try to sign, and he is probably around the 4th-5th best center in this FA class so he won't be cheap. Then we have to sign a guy that probably won't be any better than Diop as a backup. So we will be paying more for the same amount of production.

The only reason it would make any sense is if we need to amnesty him to stay under the tax line which is 70 million. Right now we are at ~47.5 which isn't even the salary floor. That is including Diop's contract, but not the rookies and what we will potentially pay Kwame.

Just reading this thread, it dawned on me how much this team is going to suck. Where the hell are the points going to come from? Augustin? Diaw?

Gawd, we're fugged.

Yeah, I've said in another thread this is going to be a bad team. Points are going to come from DJ, Maggette, Kemba, Hendo. I do think Hendo is going to have a good year. Hopefully Boris and TT can pitch in a couple of big games.

The worst part about the roster right now is that Matt freakin Carroll is going to be the primary SG and SF backup. Dante will probably play the 3 a lot, but I think he is more of a 3/4 tweener. Hopefully we can get a solid SG/SF backup in FA.

I will only be watching this season to see Kemba, Biyombo and to see if Gerald can take his game to the next level and develop better ball handling and 3 point shooting. I just want to try to get excited about the future. I am expecting us to be at the very bottom of the league but if we can land a top draft pick in next years class, that will be pretty good. Knowing our luck though, we will have by far the worst record in the NBA and we will get drawn for the 14th pick or something in the lottery draft and wind up with some guy that may have some potential but is a complete bust. Life as a Bobcats fan sure can be tough. I will never give up on them though.

Last time I was @ TWC Arena we had no Jackson, Thomas, or Wallace. We scored like 40 something points in the 1st quarter..

..and lost the game. We suck.

I think I was at that game. We had life 7 total players. 2 on the bench or something right after the Gerald trade I think. Maybe it was a different game but that was the last time I was there.

    • This is a wild statement it’s to late to save his season with six games left? That mountain of bad film as a rookie with trash coaching a weak azz line and dismal WRs. Guys that can’t catch on with other teams or guys traded to teams that are subpar at best. We put Bryce in a terrible situation to start his career does that matter to you or you feel he should’ve, as a rookie elevate this dumpster fire. If you’re giving him a fair assessment judge him off the last four games a good o-line decent WRs still not comparable to any other young QB WR room Hou (tank/nico..) Tua (Hill/Waddle) Caleb (Moore/Rome/Allen) let’s see what he can do with a decent structure around him for the next few weeks then let’s revisit how we’re going to grade or assess his performances.
    • As a bit of counterpoint, if he wanted to continue his professional career then handling it like a mature adult was the only option. Dude had been playing like absolute ass and needed to own it. It's great that he did but it's not like he didn't have a large amount of self interest in doing so. Not picking on Bryce specifically here, as this applies to any player or even anyone struggling early in their career. And he still has a long way to go, but signs are positive.
    • I agree he could still develop, but I think that could still be developed in practice. Just after a scary injury like that, I'm nervous to see him get reps in a live game situation when the best possible outcome is nothing more than worsening our draft selection. That said, I'm 100% not a doctor, so if he's clear to play, he wants to play, and there's no potential of aggravating this injury (which by all accounts it doesn't seem that is the case for this type of injury) then go for it, I guess.   But you hit the nail on the head. This draft class is really impressive. I can't remember the last time I was so impressed with a rookie that I'd actually prefer shutting him down. His game is so apparent that he doesn't need to prove anything at this point. Can't remember the last time that happened!
