I've turned down quite a few door-to-door popcorn sales kids lately. Nobody wants that sh*t. Peddle subscriptions to Hustler and we'll talk.

Be careful with the Pine Car Derby. My son was only in for 2years but man I loved doing those cars. I bet I had 40 hours in each one. No son hardly ever builds those things themselves-its like father against father.I let mine put a coat of paint on it. Bad I know but they are fun....learning all the little tricks you can do to make them faster. Another father and I would get in his garage and split a 5th of bourbon and work on them and test them...the kids would help but lose interest.

Get both.

I am an Eagle, and wouldn't change a thing. Was able to do a ton of great things that otherwise would not have been able to do/afford growing up.

White water rafting

High angle rescue/Aussie and Regular rappelling

Wilderness Survival training

Hiking a large part of the AT

Snowboarding tons of times

Etc.

If you can get some of your sons friends to join and stick together all the way through, it will be much easier on you and he. There were 5 of us who joined at the same time and made Eagle at the same time. Still remain best friends to this day.
