There you go again laughing for no reason. It only works one way in real life football to o Teeray.When we turn over the ball...it's a bad thing and the defense has to deal with that. We are giving a free try to the offense. When our defense gets a takeaways it's a good thing for our offense.

That's why defensive yards per point is not merely a defensive stat, remember? That is exactly your opponent's offensive efficiency.

Opponent's yards per point allowed for us against Indianapolis: 17.0.

Indianapolis offensive efficiency: 323/19 = 17.0 yards per point.

Same number. Just like offensive yards per point is total scoring offensive efficiency against someone's entire team. Scoring defense yards per point allowed = your opponent's offense against your team's total defense. Your scoring defense, is no different than scoring offense. It includes more than just your defense, especially when there are turnovers involved or pick 6's. It includes special teams defense, interceptions taken downtown against your offense, when your defense is still on the field, as well as whatever other "benefits" the offense pitches in with. The "benefits" the offense usually gives the defense isn't a benefit at all. It's a turnover and bad field position.

If there are turnovers involved the number no longer measures just defense just like the offensive number no longer measures only offense when there are points scored by your special teams or turnovers by your defense. When a turnover occurs your offense is playing defense too. If someone gets a pick 6, they don't score that against your defense. The offense is still on the field.

In reality both numbers are offensive efficiency measurements only. One for your offense, one for your opponent's offense or combined opponents against your team.

For your defensive measurement you are better off just looking at a defense's yards per play. That's what most people yards per point for offense and yards per play or your total defense yards allowed(aka "total defense")

So yeah over the past 3 games our defense got 4 takeaways for the offense, special teams scored a touchdown, and also a big return which improved our total scoring offense efficiency.

Oth, over the past 3 games our offense threw 4 picks and got a number of 3 and outs and scoring defense allowed a huge return as well. That improved our opponent's efficiency and made scoring defense yards per point, go the opposite way.

The turnovers stat is huge because it means fewer chances to score, and more short fields to go against a defense that isn't very good. Improve it to at least middle of the pack and we probably have 3 more wins.

the turnover problem is something that coaching and experience will help overcome. i don't foresee it continuing to be the problem it is right now.

You didn't answer this in the other thread so I'll post it again. I'm still confused as to what our friend PFFL actually believes, so can you please go on record for a moment and answer a few questions?

Question 1: Which NFL team has the best defense, and what makes them the best?

Question 2: How much do you think defense matters at all when it comes to winning games?

Question 3: Why doesn't any analyst on TV or radio agree with you? Why do GMs spend so much money on their defense when YPP is an offensive stat and YPP is all that matters?

How does it not account for field position when I clearly listed average starting field position per drive? When you are top ten in TDs per drive and points per drive yet rank slightly below average in starting field position it actually bodes better for your offense.

That is why I listed several stats to provide as much context as possible. It is a conglomerate of all those stats put together to finding meaning between them.

It's the third most important stat in football. W's & L's, Efficiency, and turnovers.

That's it. That's all you really ever need.

Wrong again. Points for versus points against are the only stats that matters. Yards per point is not useful given that yards don't win anything and it really doesn't matter how many yards you give up or get ,only the points for and points against. And if you have 200 yards and 20 points or 600 yards and 20 points, you have 20 points regardless. Even a fifth grader knows that.

Turnovers are also not a great stat in isolation. Points off turovers is a much better stat. If you turnover the ball 4 times and give up no points as a result. there is little harm but field position. if you turnover the ball one time and give up 7 points it hurts you alot.

I hope that one of the PFFL alias comes here with more IQ points. The same old stupid discussions are annoying.
