Now this is actually a good thread that makes a lot of sense. But it still talks more about less meaningless accomplishments than the ones that really matter. I can do a lot a better than that.

Steve Smith is also one of the only 7-8 guys who have won a triple crown in receiving in the history of the NFL and his personal wikipedia page always comes up first in Google when you type in receiving triple crown. It's almost like if you typed in quarterback triple crown and the first result was some quarterback's personal wikipedia page or say 3 time Super Bowl champion. Except it's not. The first is a list. Second is Joe Montana.

Obviously Google thinks Smith's accomplishment is more amazing in his job than Joe Montana was for a quarterback or most of the other receivers that did it. He's so fuging bad-ass even Google agrees. And so does Bing. And they rank pages not just by popularity, unlike ESPN's rankings, but by both popularity AND authoritative meaningful accomplishments(kind of like YPP) ;) This and Steve Smith truly is a real life example of the old cliche saying "next to the definition of elite receiver in the dictionary or encyclopedia you'll find a picture of Steve Smith." This is actually that saying being true for once. And even Raging Bull can understand that. That's who is currently listed in the dictionary next to one of the most valuable stats for a receiver. If not the most valuable for a single season. I can't really think of anything more valuable than a receiver's individual value based on his own merit at his position to his team's offense. Sure there's others, but he's one of that group, by merit and currently he's the one that's done it most recently(before him being 1992).

And if that's not enough, Smith also coaches soccer, is an investor and even had an Autralian soccer player named his son after him. He's that fuging bad ass. It just doesn't get more bad ass than Steve Smith....

Yeah...I'm gushing. But unlike Cam homers this guy actually earned this type of praise. Nobody gave him millions of dollars for beating up on amateurs.

 @ this POS post...

I hope he breaks 10k this week, but Talib has seemed to give him problems recently.

Talib may be suspended...I think he was the 1 who attacked Freeman with the gun, just like he did to his sister's boyfriend in the off-season. :yikes: Kidding. Funny he didn't get in more trouble for that even tho there was no CBA.

Talib is a moron. I think he plays Smith more physically than some other corners, but it wouldn't surprise me if Smith burns him a couple of times this game.

still 1,500 yards away from moose, and probably 2,000 away from even being considered for the HOF :(

I think he needs to hit 3000 more yards to be legit HOF, which I think can happen, he's still number 1 now and I think he will be for 2 more seasons, if he wants he could be a solid 2 for 3-4 years past that and put a lock on it.

Chud hopefully will move him around to get good matchups. Most of the time the Tampa 2 doesn't rotate although some teams might assign one guy to Smitty with help over top.

Smitty has a couple great years left, a few or more good years. As long as we can find another 'young smitty' (great potential WR) to take his place we'll be fine but Hurney really struggles with WRyoungs so that will be the challenge.

Don't count on another "young smitty" he's one of a kind. Don't want to be all Detroit here but a top notch WR with size and speed would be sweet.

Dunno if you guys have seen this cat on our team goin' by the name of "Pilares" but he looks awfully similar to Smitty when he entered the league... Size... Speed... Special Teams playmaker... Did someone say young Smitty? Possibly...

Blackmon's may be within reach as well with our first draft pick. Don't think we pick him up though, since we're pretty much loaded with WRs on our roster right now. Not sure I would either... I'd probably go with Kalil if he was on the board. I'll trust whatever Hurney does though, 'cause the guy just doesn't miss in the first round...

He can easily play another 5 years. The guy is obviously no where close to slowing down. He is a physical beast and can take hits like no other. He has a great work ethic and desire to play a long time, be one of the greatest, and win as a Panther. He is not going anywhere anytime soon.

With Cam only getting better, he and Steve will be great for the next few years, catapulting Smith into a no brainer HOF worthy career.

Will have to get another stud receiver though to go next to him. That will be important.

Ya we mightve heard of him a few thousand times. The problem is that he's not even 4th on the injury laden depth chart but somehow you think he can ball like 89. I hope in the future he can learn to catch, block, and be HALF as mean as Smitty. We have 4 young receivers on the roster and a guy whos going to play for at least 2 to 3 more years if not 5 or 6 like the rarest, most determined, and gifted athletes do. I havnt even mentioned Legs or Tutu so dude please. . . we're not drafting a receiver next year.

The press are a bunch of power driven pompous douches when it comes to casting "THEIR" vote into the hat. For some reason its hard for them in a many cases to simply do the right thing and vote for the guy that deserves it. Im a little pessimistic that some of those guys will hold off on voting for Smitty because of the anger issues and to them he's just not a classy guy.

Best receiver to ever play the game and he might not get in. I think Cam has increased his odds to above a 50% chance though. . . so yeah theres that.

After this season Smitty still has atleast 2 years left before you start to see him losing speed IMO. I think he'll still be a truly elite #1 who can stretch the field and be a deep threat. After that I see him transitioning to the slot and being like a Wes Welker type. He's gonna lose speed, but he will still have his toughness going across the middle and will be money on third down situations and in the red zone. And I'm sure even at 35 and 36 he'll be able to pick up lots of yards after catch.

That's my take if I'm playing the prediction game. I see him having 5 more seasons after this year. The first 2 will be the same ole elite Smitty we've always known. The last 3 he'll still be a huge factor for us, but he's definitely going to lose some of that burst I would guess and shouldn't really be our #1 any more at that point.

Smitty has stayed in such great ship over the course of his career and I don't see that ever stopping. Rice played into his 40's and still produced. Owens isn't on a team right now but he had good numbers last year and is still in great shape. Moss could be playing if he wanted to and didn't have that attitude. Marvin Harrison had elite seasons all the way to 35. I definitely see Smitty playing for us and producing into his late 30's, he just won't be 2005/2011 Smitty at that point. But he still has 2 full seasons of absolutely elite play left in him atleast. Maybe more... I would never doubt Smitty. He's one of a kind.

Smitty will play until it isn't fun anymore. He already has studied finance and is working toward his career after football. He doesn't need it like some and is more worried about his family than he being in the HOF. I hope he plays for a few more years but wouldn't be surprised if he calls it quits when his contract is up after 2012.

Agree, the chances of us drafting a WR are slim to none. However, KP's current position on the draft chart doesn't really mean anything to me. Wasn't Miles Austin low on the chart before leap frogging people? Same deal with Smitty. Their entrance into the league is strangely and eerily similar.
