A bit annoyed with #89

I've been thinking the same thing about Smith. My favorite player, and he's been excellent this year, but man he's made some mental errors that have cost us. The same can be said about a lot of players on this team, though.

Smitty makes spectacular plays, so the fans will always forgive him.

It is pretty hard for a left tackle to make a spectacular play in the eyes of fans. Other o-linemen might recognize a given play as great, but to most fans, it was just a block.

Yep it was a good block, and that PI call was bullpoo. Good makeup no call on Godfrey though for PI.

Idiotic. No such thing as a good makeup no call. Refs need to get it right and not be in the business of correcting their mistakes by screwing up another call.

Bullpoo call and we won the game so who the fug cares. 89 is 89 deal with it, he may make mistakes but he redeems himself.

I agree with the OP to an extent. I am of course not mad at smith, because imo he hasn't been making that many mistakes. But when he does, he deserves to get called out just like anyone else.

In fairness, there have been some pretty ticky-tack holding calls on Smitty. He's got a reputation and now the refs are looking for it.

I give him a pass because 1) he makes up for it by being the most explosive player on our offense and 2) because he's 5'8" and 185 lbs trying to block guys who are usually much bigger then he is.

Since we are talking penalties, it should be pointed out that we did much better yesterday, only committing 6 penalties.

The o-line in particular should be applauded for not committing a single penalty in the game.

Yesterday, Gross missed a block that led to a sack. But then we didn't hear his name for the rest of the game (a good thing for an offensive linemen). Just part of Gross being Gross. :)
