Ohh, so you were talking about YPP? Yep, you are truly retarded. I mean you can't really grasp simple concepts, such as how a play that is performed while the "offense" isn't on the field is not an offensive play, no matter what happens on that particular play. Just because points were scored, does not make it an offensive play. YPP measures a teams scoring efficiency, not that team's offense's scoring efficiency.

But how else will he win Olympic gold in mental gymnastics? !?!?

Let me put it this way, if football was basketball this place would think the best team is the one who spends all day dribbling the ball and whoever runs up and down the court more than anyone else. It wouldn't matter if their accuracy was poo, and scored less than a pooty as team, as long as they kept running and attempting dunks and lay-ups all day long.

And a center would also not be considered part of the team's offense. You'd also be saying that it's not the responsibility of the point guard to try and score the most points. And that the point guard isn't the most important position when it comes to an offense's efficiency because it affects it more than anybody.

And when the point guard fails to score, and gets blocked every time he goes up for a lay-up or a dunk, it would somehow be the center's fault for not blocking enough point attempts.

if Labron started sucking, kept allowing steals all day long, and only put up 20 points a game, it would be the defense's fault that they lose games because they're not getting as many steals as the other guys. That's basically this place's mentality right now. And it's laughable.

Just to clarify, you believe our defense is good enough for us to be a 500 team or even playoff caliber?

And if football were basketball you would think the best team was the one with the highest FG%, no matter how crappy they were on defense.

Also football and basketball are not comparable because the same players play offense and defense in basketball, and moving the ball from the opponent's end of the court to your end is not difficult at all.

Nope, more like he would argue that the team with the highest PPM was the best. It's not a very good comparison though, you can't score points in Bball while playing defense, etc. It's just PFFL trying to make a ridiculous comparison that really doesn't make any sense.

Was it Cap's 42 yard PI, Donald Brown running into the endzone totally untouched or Martin's miserable tackling attempt on Wayne's 56 yard TD that saved Cam???

For those of you keeping count, that's 13 points for the Colts that were the direct result of fail by our defense... they only scored 19.

Whoops didn't mean to repost this.

Defense sucked poo and got gashed for big plays by Curtis fuging Painter and Donald Brown. PFFL you belong in a straightjacket.

Like I said, do some of you just love to keep making dumb and ignorant statements? Yeah dude, you figured it out. It's defenses who actually who scores in football:rolleyes:

Who is the primary scorer of points on the Panthers team? Sherod Martin? Your retarded brain? Who is it?

Not only that, but the one most people use actually only uses an offense's yards. Making it both: a measurement of your scoring offense, a measurement of your actual, as well as a 100% certain indicator that when it's inefficient it's your actual offense that's bad and the rest of the team can't make up for their mistakes.

You just continue to show you have no clue what you're talking about.:prrr:

You continue to to prove my point of how ignorant some of you are.

Defenses can and do score, as do special teams. On a pick six a defensive player isn't just magically transformed into part of the offense. It's a team statistic, get over it, you're wrong.

I'll post the whole page then since you don't seem to get it

http://coldhardfootballfacts.com/Articles/2_986_Scoreability_Index.html

Remember, the Scoreability Index is not merely an offensive indicator! It is a team-wide measurement of ability to turn yards into points. It takes into account a variety of factors (including proficiency of defense and special teams, red zone offense, and turnover differential) and then spits it all out in an easy-to-understand number. Other measures of offense, and offensive efficiency, look at the offensive unit in a vacuum. We do not care how a unit plays in a fantasy-football vacuum because in real football games teams do not play in a vacuum. Instead, our Quality Stats give you insight into the many complex, interacting factors that go into team-wide success.

Scoreability is obtained this way: Offensive Yards/Total Points Scored = Yards Per Point Scored (YPPS). The lower the number, the more efficiently a team scores points.

Click here for final 2009 Scoreability Index.

SCOREABILITY INDEX UPDATE

Highly efficient offenses in 2010 made for great regular seasons ... but not so much luck in the playoffs.

In fact, Scoreability-Bendability had the highest Correlation to Victory of any of our Quality Stats: teams that won the efficiency battle in 2010 went an incredible 216-40 (84.4%). You'll learn more about Correlation to Victory in our new CHFF Insider during the 2011 season.

New England finished No. 1 in Scoreability, with an incredible 11.24 Yards Per Point Scored. They topped the AFC, with a 14-2 record. Atlanta finished No. 2 in Scoreability, with 13.18 Yards Per Point Scored. They topped the NFC, with a 13-3 record.

Of course, this efficiency didn't help either team in the playoffs: both were bounced, at home, in the divisional round, failing to win even a single postseason game.

The 2010 Patriots, by the way, fell just shy of the Scoreability record (since we started keeping track in 2004) record set by the famous 16-0 Patriots of 2007. The 2010 team needed 11.24 Yards Per Point Scored; the 2007 Patriots set the standard with 11.17 Yards Per Point Scored.

Finally, to understand the importance of scoring efficiency, look at the top and bottom teams in the league in terms of yards needed to produce seven points.

The top-ranked 2010 Patriots (11.24 YPPS) needed a breezy 78.7 yards to score the equivalent of a touchdown and extra point. There was little wasted effort in that offense.

The 32nd-ranked 2010 Panthers (21.1 YPPS) needed a daunting 147.7 yards simply to score the equivalent of a touchdown and extra point. The team ranked last in scoring offense, largely because they had a lot of wasted, empty yards that turned up nothing.

It's no coincidence that the most efficient offense in 2010 belonged to the team with the best record in football, and that the least efficient offense in 2010 belonged to the team with the worst record in football.

So you need help understanding the word "merely" now or what?

Yes it's not ONLY that. It measures your total offense, your scoring offense, your actual offense, starting field position, your opponent's offense efficiency, how bad your offense screws over your defense, how your scoring defense.

He's right, it's not merely a measurement of your offense. It's a a LOT more than that. It's not JUST a measurement of your offense. That's what he's saying.

And in the same paragraph it also explains to you that it is in fact offensive efficiency:

Other measures of offense, and offensive efficiency, look at the offensive unit in a vacuum. We do not care how a unit plays in a fantasy-football vacuum because in real football games teams do not play in a vacuum.

And it is also why it's better than all the other measurements. But somehow you take that statement to mean that it's not saying it's offensive efficiency. To read that phrase and come out with the logic that it's not an offensive measurement, means you have bigger problems than not knowing football. You can't fuging read English and you are beyond dumb as a brick.

So fug learning football and football terms. Learn ENGLISH first! If you can't read, and don't understand words, you can't possibly understand logical , football, good arguments or me!

PS: You know the old saying...you can lead a horse to water...

That's exactly what it says. It's not merely an offensive statistic, it is something else. To say that it is an offensive statistic is both ignorant and just plain wrong.

Yeah it's better than others as a single stat to determine a team's efficiency.

But you use it to prove that the offense sucks, in a vacuum. You're not including anything the defense does when you mention YPP, you've even gone so far as to say that defense has nothing to do with starting field position! You're using the stat to measure the exact thing that CHFF tells you it DOES NOT measure.

team-wide measurement of ability to turn yards into points

This is what it represents, and by stating that "it's not merely an offensive indicator", they are stating that it should not be represented as such. You trying to pass it off as an offensive statistic just proves that you're pretty stupid. It also proves that you don't understand basic inference of the English language. This is pretty funny since you attempted to lambaste someone earlier about not knowing the definition of merely or it's usage, when you yourself so clearly don't.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
