If our offense really is screwing over our defense and making them look bad, then why was coach McDermott standing up in front of the defense on Saturday night telling them they needed to start carrying their weight and playing up to the level of the offense?

YPP is useful shortcut for football handicapping, that's about it - it doesn't come close to telling the whole story.

In terms of YPP, our offense has to move the ball 17 yards to score a point while our opponents only have to move the ball 13 yards against our defense to score a point.

How does this demonstrate that our offense is screwing over our defense?

Our defense has given up several big scoring plays this year, so it doesn't surprise me at all to learn that our opponents offense is much more efficient against our defense then our offense is against theirs, but this in no way demonstrates that somehow our offense is setting our defense up for failure.

YPP is your yards per point. It's a measurement. Just like yards per game. It measures scoring efficiency. Your ability to score points. It's used as a handicap, sure, but it doesn't change the fact that it is primarily your scoring efficiency measurement.

The reason why it is used as a handicap is because it is the absolute best indicator of a team's scoring ability and overall power ranking, not including schedule. It's simply the power ranking of your offense man. Efficient offenses win football games. It would make sense that's what you look at. Vegas isn't clueless like most football fans. They know this. Advanced stat users know this. They don't go off meaningless stats like total yards, or other pointless statistics.

College kids know this. This is what they use in college football. NFL fans are still clueless for the most part and Vegas and the NFL likes it like that.

Points per game differential is also used as a handicap. Just cause it's used as a handicap it doesn't stop it from being the most important stat in football and it doesn't fuging stop it from being a measurement of your offense's efficiency.

Stop being ignorant. People use this instead of meaningless stats like yards, because it's a better indicator of whether or not you're going to WIN!

Actually YPP is dangerous with college games because of the increased # of blowouts with teams facing vastly inferior opponents (homecoming). It's much more useful in setting a line for an NFL game.

The problem is, your taking our offensive and defensive YPP and assuming some sort of cause and effect in the relationship of those numbers and that's a silly assumption.

What our YPP tells us is that our opponents offense is much more efficient scoring points against our defense then we are at scoring points against theirs, that could just as easily mean our defense sucks.

Think about how many big scoring plays our defense has given up as a result of blown assignments, Beason's achillies rupturing, missed tackles, bad angles, poor gap discipline, etc... we're lumping all of that on the offense?

Here's something else to consider, we lead our opponents both in 1st downs and time of possession... but they score much more efficiently against us then we do against them.

This is because our opponents don't need 1st downs and TOP to score on our crappy defense.

No, worse. I'm married.

It's been stated by many that you're not wanted aroing here. Why not just find another MB? Takes you 5-10 seconds to create an acct and 10 seconds to delete them, what do you have to gain?

You could just be Patriots Fan For Life on their board and you could troll and annoy the $hit out of them.

Yeah, nobody should use YPP for handicapping college games. Too much variance in talent from team to team and too many different offensive styles from team to team.

You should never look at anything without taking into consideration schedule.

I answered both of you here since I'm tired of getting my posts deleted:

That is of course if you can discuss football without a chaperone and acting like 5 year olds.

That's funny considering there's already been members from here posting there. Some members agree because they don't live inside a bubble like you do so they are a bit more knowledgeable.

You should also go check this one too: http://www.panthersfanz.com

I created all of their alts too. It won't hurt you to get a difference of opinion from time to time. Might get closer to reality.
