Cut Sherrod Martin

That's not what I am saying. I get it everyone makes mistakes. But when you consistently play below average, it's time to upgrade. It's time to try something different. And that play at the end doesn't make up for his play.

Martin isn't cutting it for me. That's all I saying. He isn't doing his job as a safety. That missed play on Wayne wasn't the only one today. And the missed tackle isn't even what gets me. Even if he did make the tackle, he was so passive and gave him at least 10 free yards.

Again maybe you have never played football but no safety in this or any other league looks good when your front 7 sucks. 50 tackles and 3int in 11 games is a solid season for any safety.

The fact that we can't stop the run (at all) and are in need of another starting CB. Makes the job of the safety almost impossible to do. When you have to expect on most plays that a 220 pound RB will be coming full speed down hill at you. It makes it kind of hard to also worry about covering up for a bad CB like Capt.

In no way am I advocating cutting him. That just wouldn't make any sense.

But what I am saying is, don't defend the dude's play by saying he made the game saving INT.

well it's hard to ignore the fact he made a game-saving INT. I think he also had an INT against NO that lead to a drive on which we took a lead. He has made big plays, but he has also given big plays up.

It's hard to really judge him given the general disarray on defense. He hasn't played well overall, but very few of our players on D really have.

Considering how many plays he has had to make this season due to the horrendous play of the Front 7, I'd put him in as an Alternate to the Pro Bowl. No one is perfect...

...well except for this OP. I mean he has brought so much to the table to support his claim...not.

I don't have to defend his play. If you know football at all you would know that right now our front 7 is putting our safeties in bad situations time and time again. No safety can fully be effective if they have to make TD saving tackles on 2 out of every 5 run plays. If a safety can't trust their front 7 it hurts their play in the running and pass defense.

Again a safety can't fully be judged with horrible front 7 play. :nono:

the BIGGEST problem on our defense is we don't have the depth to play a full game..

our rookie DT's hit the wall per Rivera, our LBing corp is running on fumes.. by the time the 2nd half rolls around, we have nothing in the tank.. the 3rd we start slow (common for most teams), and the 4th we have no gas left in the tank.. you almost saw that again today, clearly we were better, but almost didn't finish. Thanks to Martin, we finished..

trick is tightening all of that up because if we only played in the 1st half, we would have at least 6 or 7 wins.. our defense plays very solid and our offense has put up points (for the most part)..

yet you can tell by this forum that most fans are totally oblivious to what is actually going on down on the field..

How quickly we forget how he broke up the deep pass to Garcon in the first half.

No one is giving credit to godfrey for tipping the pass. We shouldn't be talking about Martin's inability to tackle one-on-one..we should be talking about how well Godfrey has played all year. He has done very well in the secondary and coming up in the run laying the wood.

As a defense, our tackling is atrocious. Martin is about one of the worst tacklers I've ever seen play the safety position. I will agree we don't have any better option at this point, and he can make good plays on the ball, but in the open field, forget it.

Martin shouldn't be cut and isn't even close to the worst starter on our defense, but he isn't that good either. He would be a back up on a good defense, but we obviously aren't one.

Every one is talking about that Wayne touchdown, but did we took a horrible angle on the Brown touchdown too. Should have stopped him. I would love to upgrade over Martin, but it isn't really feasible right now considering all our other needs.
